On Evernote-Lesson 5- What all can be in a note?
Lesson no : Pro/EN/5
Revision of lessons till date
What are notes? Simple analogy - Consider it as a paper. Each note is a paper. Paper may have different contents. It could be as simple as a flyer or a very important land document. In Evernote, all such papers are NOTES. In Evernote, any content could be a note - text, image, video, audio or a link to any file in the local disk or cloud.
I then showed how notes can be saved in NOTEBOOKS and then these notebooks can be STACKED.
We then visited TAGS and NESTING of tags, which basically serves as a function of bookmarks and I explained how it would definitely help in retrieving an item easily.
Lesson 5 - What all can be saved in a note?
Well the answer is -"almost anything". In one format or another. I mean, anything that can be digitalised can be saved in someway in Evernote. It may not be the entire file itself.
For example, in my case, I am a civil engineer and I use AutoCAD drawings all the time. The drawings are in a format called 'dwg'. I will not be able to view this file in Evernote. But, just like in a folder, I can save this file in a note, download it from the note and use the relevant app/software to open it from the phone or the desktop. The other way of saving this as a link to the file location being saved in Evernote, where the file itself is saved in a cloud server like google drive or dropbox.
Some ways to save all types of stuff to a note
- Writing - You can write anything in a note. Alternatively, you can use your S pen or even your finger to put in a content to a note. Just like in WORD, you can use all formatting methods to input the text. There are many fonts, and options to enter tables and many many more to capture any sort of input.
- Dragging and Dropping - You can drag and drop any type of content from whichever media. Example - if there is a foreword in whatsapp, it can be dropped to Evernote.
- Clipping the web - A web clipper option is available in most browsers. Suppose we find an interesting webpage and need it for reference in future, we can easily use the web clipper or alternatively click the right mouse and select "copy to Evernote" option. In any case, we are given the option of saving the webpage in many formats. You can save it as the original webpage, or just the content, or even a pdf itself. This feature is very helpful while a person is doing his research on any subject.
- Taking a picture and sharing a picture - One can always take pictures using the Evernote camera. Additionally, any picture can be saved to Evernote.
- Capturing audio - From the inside of a note, we can record an audio. Alternatively, an audio clip can be saved as well.
- Sending from Email or sending the mail itself - This is one feature that I use very much. I face challenges in searching for important mails. The mails can be sent directly to a folder in Evernote by inputting the unique email ID. Once the mail lands on the specified folder, it is very convenient for the user to select the notebook and tag properly for extraction later. This is so convenient and saves a lot of effort. All it takes is the forming of habit to send the mails to Evernote once an important save worthy mail lands in the inbox.
- Integrating with Google Drive and other platforms - Switching between apps is a fact of life—it also kills your concentration. When you move from one app to another and back, it takes time to refocus on what you were doing. Now imagine a world where your attention isn’t disrupted every ten seconds. Evernote’s integrations with Google Drive, Slack, Salesforce, and Microsoft Teams bring that world a little closer. Google drive files can be sent to Evernote without leaving the note you’re working on. Each file shows up as a box with useful information like the filename and the last
- Sharing stuff - Evernote is an amazing co working platform. Whatever is the note you are working on, you can loop in a fellow team mate and you can set the right permission. In addition, you can share an entire notebook and give the right to the individual to add to the notebook. I use this when I travel with my friends. So that all web pages that my friends land on can be pooled into the common notebook and discussions can be done there.
