PURATCHI THALAIVAR MGR:

MGR ( born on 17.1.1917) earned  many  appreciable names to his credit, viz.,Puratchi Thalaivan, Vaadhyar Ayya  through his good acting, figting with full energy, romancing in duet scenes, giving an audience acceptable message in films and his dedicated works as a politician in politics. . His undisputed success in politics is a sheer thumps-up message with the tag he did not get fear to anybody. Be it politics , celluloid world – his interaction with many politicians, foreign dignitaries, artistes was an awesome one . His films gave enough confidence to the voter public that here is a leader who would deliver goods to the masses. His concern for even the downline staff – be they  driver, police, peon – by visiting them and enquiring about them  at end of meetingthrilled the bureaucracy and big bosses of industries.. Admitting mistakes committed was MGRs one of the success mantras. One of his film songs has this line: THAVARANA PECHCHU NER VAZHIYAAGA VENDUM (faulty talk should be regretted and should lead to honest path).

COMRADERIE CHARACTER – MGR

Some times he has worked for more than 16 hours with the production team on many days . His  box office hit Enga vettu pillai is the telling example for his hard work which has been getting appreciations from many producers, musicians etc in many forum.  In fact, this film, it is said, has dispelled the notion that he was not a good actor.  He was called IDHAYA KANI, IDHAYA DHEIVAM, etc. after his stunning role as fisherman, peasant, rickshaw puller, etc.  People embodied  him as one of their sons (Enga Veettup Pillai)during his hay-days in cinema and subsequently in politics too – the adulation he enjoyed is something unique. His helping tendency towards the needy in celluloid and political arena is laudable and he has done worthy ventures for their welfare.  He was people friendly , audience friendly and above all industry-friendly. He has  acted in more than 130 films. The film Mantrikumari gave him a needed break whereas films like  Malaikallan, Alibabavum 40 thirudargalum gave him a solid grip in Kollywood.

TWO LEAVES and MGR

Coming back to politics, the two leaves symbol has its distinction of having its continued  extension of  his  metaphor, still holding sway by ambassadoring the Puratchi Thalaivan to party cadres.   The success of members of small parties standing in this famous symbol  and got their due victories in the elections is the telling example of the imbibing character of  MGR as a mass leader  and the two leaves( he founded) as an accepted symbol by many even after his demise. To put in simple words: “Two leaves symbol is an icon of MGR”. It is quite apparent that his successor JJ naturally followed his victory techniques  and improvised upon  them wherever needed.
