Everest BC - day 8
Not the best day in my life!
Forget the day. Let me tell you about the last night. It was one of the worst (if not the worst) in my life. At around 10:30 pm local time i woke up unable to breath and hearing strange sound of pouring water in my lungs. This lasted over the whole night. No electricity, no internet, no phone coverage, freezing cold only Andrey sharing the room with me - thanks God! Got sick at 4380 m hight. Not the best place to get sick at all. The closest doctor is 3 hours by horse and honestly I do not feel like taking this option as I would not be surprised if he will not be even able to understand what is the problem.
Only for the past 2 days I have walked over 30 km and accented almost 400 story building 2 times at altitude of between 3000 m and 4400 m. At that hight the oxygen level is 50% less than at sea level. Half less! Every thing is much harder to do - to climb, to walk and to breath. The worst is that you can barely sleep because the body cannot adopt.
Me - the man born at the absolute 0 - at the sea level of Varna. Me - the man who has never been higher than 3000 m for ski (with a big difference as you ski down) Me - the man who did not take the Diamox pills (which make the climbing at high latitude much easier) to prove that the mind should take over the body - not the other way around - finally got my chance to prove that I can do it but decided not to take further risks for my health and for my beloved! Next few days I will spend in Kathmandu hospital before I come home :)
This whole expedition was to prove to myself that there is nothing one can't do. And it felt very much I will prove it this time again, but obviously health and my family are above all!
So here I am - choosing to be back home instead of climbing the last 1000 m and gettting to the target. I dont give up - I am just posponing!
I left the Bulgarian flag to my dear friends we spent the last 8 days together - so they shall do my job this time. At that altitude you sleep in freezing rooms and you go through challenges which mostly reffer to health, mental and physical strenght. I was proud to be with all these guys and each and every one of us had his major challenges but we stayed together and we shared our limited resources. I would go with them even to Mars! You guys rock! So these great guys will place the Bulgarian flag I brought at Everest basecamp with honour. Next - it will be me!
There are people who say "Plamen never fails". Well guys let me tell you I FAILED at hight! But I have learned another great lesson and one thing is for sure - I don't give up.

7 年You hardly failed Plamen. Congrats on trying to tackle it to begin with. I have a similar goal in late OCT. I will trek 21 days thru the Annapurna region of Nepal and will cross over an 18k ft high pass. Your experience reminds me that i have much hard training to do!!! Way to go and get well!

This is not failure by any means my friend. Failure is staying at home and not trying. Get well.
