Ever wondered what it’s like to work in the Church in Wales?

Ever wondered what it’s like to work in the Church in Wales?

Mary Mann, Communications Officer at the Diocese of Llandaff explains:

“While studying journalism at university I began to go to church and found my faith. I wasn’t looking for it specifically but a communications job at a diocese presented itself and, in my heart, it was a huge shout from God saying this is where I should be. Personally, for me I get excitement every day from being able to use my professional training and capabilities for my beliefs and that is only enhanced by the team around me.

Working with colleagues of the same Christian mindset brings such warmth and friendliness to first time interactions and ongoing colleague relationships. There is almost an instinctual unspoken agreement that we are all aiming for the same thing. When I talk about my colleagues, I spend most of the time using the word “lovely”. They really are all lovely people and I find it a really happy place of work with (despite what secular channels say about the church) a lot of hope, optimism, and drive.

Knowing we are all working towards the same goal of enriching people’s lives, enabling the Church, and working for the Kingdom of God makes me feel grounded and confident in the intentions of each individual and the ultimate goals and mission of my employer.

In Communications I also get to hear amazing stories of the good work of churches and individuals and do my part to empower projects with strong marketing so they can have confidence that their good work is out there being noticed so they can focus on reaching their full potential. It is really fulfilling for me to use my modern skills for such a historic organisation which has roots like no other institution. Bringing things up to date and reminding people of the incredible work of often modest churches is very rewarding.

My personal goal for every task however big or small is to make it have the potential for someone to think about church when they may not have done. If this is a flyer or a social media post, a news story, website page, or the most boring document, everything has the potential to inspire if the communication is correct.

I love my job and I feel like what I do makes a difference.

What more can you ask for out of a career?”
