Is it ever too late to be an artist?

Okay...so a couple of years ago I was super excited when one of my friends asked me to give her some of my drone photos, and she blew them up and framed them for her office wall. That was the thrill of the year for me. Because most of the time my art is a video story of some sort. It gets played, or aired, and then it's just gone until it's played again. But art is always in the room, on the wall with a sense of permanency.

Well today was even bigger for me than the day my pics went up on her wall. Today my art was installed on a utility box in Redondo Beach as "public art". I entered a contest to have my art appear on a utility box, and go figure...I was one of the winners. So far I am one of ten artists who have their work on utility boxes throughout Redondo Beach. I'm so lucky because the utility box I was assigned is only two blocks away from my office. Now I can drive by every day and get that feeling of accomplishment.

One of my favorite pics on the sidewalk side of the box is the moment I captured Henry Boger from Pacific Blue Air L.A. He's flying by in an ultralight over the Redondo Beach Pier. His light sport trike has become somewhat of an iconic vision around town as every day you can see his planes hugging the coastline as he takes guests up for introductory flight lessons. I was one of those guests way back when...and then I ultimately became a pilot trained under Henry. I am terrified of heights, so becoming a pilot was a stretch for me, but I did it so I could fly my DJI drones for commercial purposes. Glad I did because I was actually paid a small fee to have my pics on the utility box seen here - and most of them were shot from my drone. I'm 100% legal, and not breaking any laws. Thanks Henry.

Just wanted to share my excitement with you - the business community. I know - probably like many of you - I am in the 2nd chapter of my career, having left tv to pursue motherhood, and now doing my own thing, running a small video production company, Klein Creative Media and studio, instead of working in the glamorous world of tv. Well, I have to tell you. I'm loving this new chapter. I would highly recommend being an entrepreneur. I set my own goals instead of taking assignments. Every time I reach one of my goals, it's a huge victory with a feeling of satisfaction and pride. No one told me to enter the contest - but I did it on my own accord, and I achieved one of my dreams. I'm officially an artist again. It seems like so many of my little dreams are coming true. My first book that I'm co-authoring with 14 other women is coming out next month. I'll write about that in another article...

Finishing up...I have a short story. I was surfing the other day with a buddy, and surf legend, Peff Eick, and he made this statement, "Most people make their mark in the world between ages 50 and 60." He's over 70 and still out-surfs me every time I run into him the line-up. I think he may know a thing or two. I'm going to take his words as gospel, and keep coming up with new dreams now that I'm in the right age bracket - because now is the time they may all be coming true. Maybe I'll wish for the winning lottery numbers too. :-)
