Anyone used this past weird year to ponder on who they are? On what you want to do? And why you're still in the job you're in? There must be a way to have an enjoyable career, happy days at work and a decent salary and package?
Perhaps a silver lining of the global experience of the last year or so is life shouting at you to be happier in your work?
However, it isn't as easy as applying for a job as an accountant when all you've known is how to sell X solutions for Y tech company for the last decade.
How can you find the courage to change your career?
Your career choice is (sometimes) the most important decision you make in life. After all, your waking hours spent at work are a big part of it! If you're feeling unhappy with where things stand now and not what's right for you - then maybe it's time to change paths??
Your career 'should'/ or could align with who YOU want to be as well as how much money OR happiness will come from each day.
That's the ideal, isn't it?
You owe yourself more than this one path if there are other options out there…
Changing careers can be a daunting decision. But it's important to find the courage and take steps in order to live your best life, which includes doing work you love! You deserve more than just making money; spending time with people who share similar values can mean a lot more than just a fat payday each month.?
A career is an opportunity that many people never take advantage of. Some people fall into a job and stay there without questioning whether they want to stay there. I literally fell into recruitment. I did not grow up wanting to run my own recruitment company! Whereas my earlier career as a radio presenter and producer resulted from a plan that I meticulously mapped out and did everything I could to secure the right jobs for me.?
Back to you!
There are several reasons why now might be your chance to do something your future self will thank you for:??
A major decision such as this one can really shake up your world, which means careful consideration is needed before jumping right into something.
Sometimes we don’t think about it too much, and you end up leaving a brilliant job which meant being on the radio every day (fast forward a few years), and you’re running your own talent acquisition business (me!)
You Couldn’t Make This Up
If I were to think about a career change now, I would need time to consider all aspects of this decision as I now have a son, husband and loyal cocker spaniel to think about. I am not joking! Our dog sleeps under my home office desk most of the day and so if I were to change jobs and be out of the house as a result, not sure he’d be too pleased with me… and a stroppy cocker spaniel at home is not the way I want to live my life!
The work-life balance you may be craving is hard to achieve if your job is not fulfilling. So perhaps it is time for a change in direction?
Changing your career is an opportunity to think carefully about what matters most in work, and it can take time.?
Have those elements of your job disappeared through changes that have taken place, or have you forgotten what drew you to this line of work in the first place?

Take Small Steps
Take baby steps towards the life you crave... the career path you would so prefer.
While it may seem right to run away from your current career as fast as you can, a hurried approach may backfire. If you take the time to think through your decisions and make the best decision possible, you'll experience greater joy and fulfilment in the long run.
Chase your big dreams by breaking them down into small, manageable action steps.
Seek the advice of others who are already successful in the line of work you're seeking to enter into. LinkedIn is great for this kind of research and connection-making.
Structure your goals in a way that allows you to attain regular feedback on your progress, so you know when you're on track and when you're off course.
Respect Your Current Employer
When it's time to leave, do so gracefully. As you move closer and closer to the career change you seek, continue to perform your current job to the best of your ability. You may need your current employer as a reference, and an attitude of service will increase your self-confidence as you prepare for a dramatic change in your life.
Believe in Yourself
Trust your instincts and your ability to succeed.
You can achieve any goal that you set out to accomplish. With proper planning and a hunger to succeed, you'll experience the career success you crave. Keep your dreams in front of you, believe you can achieve them, and begin today to take the first steps toward the career you are destined to enjoy.
I honestly feel that employers post-Pandemic are more likely to understand why you're choosing to make the move now. This goes for the employer you're leaving as well as the potential new employer who may consider you as their new team member, where prior to the Pandemic, they may not have as easily understood that mid-career shift.
Surely we can see this as just one silver lining and just one lesson from the last 16 months?

3 年I really enjoyed reading this - I believe that if a change of career is what you want, go for it! 4 years ago I was in a completely different line of work but knew it was no longer where I wanted to be. Being offered the opportunity to join The Edwards Company (UK) Ltd was exactly the change I needed. It was a huge change, and definitely a scary move for me at the time, but I was surprised how many skills were transferable even though the job was completely different. It's very easy to stay in your comfort zone and stick to what you know. But in my experience, taking the leap and taking a new career path doesn't need to be as scary as it first seems.

3 年This is really a super opportunity to invest in life-coaching. Life-coaching is such a amazing support and tool to help you process and find ways to get -"unstuck", and move forward to a greater and more fulfilling path and life! I would really highly recommend both these clients to invest in some good life-coaching.
