Ever have that nagging feeling that there's something else you should be doing?

Ever have that nagging feeling that there's something else you should be doing?

Ever have that nagging feeling that there's something else you should be doing?

Or thinking that you're forgetting about something important?

It feels like low-level anxiety.

And you find yourself being distracted and not productive on what you're currently working on.

Or you find yourself floating from one unimportant task to another unimportant task.

This happened to me over the weekend.

I was unfocused and most of the weekend flew past unsatisfactorily before I realised what was going on.

If you've felt this way just like me, this is just a symptom of not being deliberate with our time.

When we don't plan our time intentionally or give ourselves time to think about what we want to achieve during our day, we will often have this nagging feeling that there's something else we should be doing.

Now, we don't always have to plan our every waking hour down to the last minute (like on the weekends).

But it is helpful to have an idea of what you want to accomplish and when you will do it.

This also includes time to think, ideate, read articles, shoot the breeze with colleagues, or watch a motivational Ted Talks video.

Those tasks also need to be intentional if you don't want to be distracted while doing them.

So, if you find yourself feeling distracted and not mindful in the moment. Or if you find yourself feeling anxious and thinking there's something else you should be doing, then quickly ask yourself these two questions:

  1. What do I need to do today?
  2. And when will I do it?"

You may find that by answering these questions your brain offers a looooong list of answers. In this case, it would be best to take some time and write down everything that's coming up for you.

And then you can fully focus and give your best with each task in front of you by being fully present in it.?

This will help to release the anxiety and increase your creativity and enjoyment!

TAKE ACTION:

  • Whenever you feel anxious or have this subtle thought that you should be doing something else, use this as an opportunity to check in with your to-do list
  • Ask yourself: "What do I need to do today? And when will I do it?"
  • Bonus points for writing it down and getting it all out of your head
  • COACHING: If you need more help with being deliberate with your time and your calendar for the workday or weekends, then book a free consultation with me here.
