Ever have a hire go wrong?

???HOT TOPICS??

Ever had a hire go wrong? Yea, me too.

Confession time here.

When I started my business, I was a bit too trusting and eager to fill gaps in my knowledge. So, when the "perfect" candidate applied—a lawyer and a health coach—I thought I hit the jackpot!

Instead, this candidate turned out to be running a breeder scam with over 100 dogs living in her home. She ended up in jail, wearing felony orange, and I learned the hard way that thorough vetting is crucial (to say the least!)

Here are some interesting facts on why looking out for bad hires needs to be important to you:

??High Turnover Costs: The cost of a bad hire can be up to 30% of the employee's first-year earnings.

??Time-Consuming Process: On average, it takes about 42 days to fill an open position.

??Cultural Fit Matters: 89% of hiring failures are due to poor cultural fit, not lack of skills.

Now that I have gotten that off my chest,?let me help you learn from my mistakes.

KINDLE THE FLAME???Learn From My Mistake

This experience taught me a valuable lesson in hiring, leading me to create the WISE Hire process. This process examines both psychological and physiological aspects of candidates, helping us detect exaggerations and ensuring we make the right hires.

Why does this matter??

Because hiring isn't just about filling a position—it's about protecting your brand and ensuring your team's success.

Practical Tips for Hiring Right:

?? Vet Thoroughly: Go beyond references and dig into candidates' backgrounds.

???Behavioral Interviews: Ask questions that reveal true character. These questions typically start with “Tell me a time when you have…”

??Trial Projects: Give short-term tasks to see candidates in action.

??Use Assessments: Utilize psychological and physiological evaluations… We have the WISE Assessment to check performance needs.

?Growth Plans: Implement plans to predict and address future frustrations.

Protect your business and build a strong, trustworthy team. Remember, if it seems too good to be true, there might just be 100 dogs hiding in the backyard!

Stoke the Fire????Growth Plans Matter

Our WISE Hire process is now a cornerstone of our success, ensuring we only bring on board the best and brightest. One critical element we emphasize is creating growth plans for our client’s employees. These plans outline a clear path for development, setting goals and milestones for career progression.

Case in Point: One of our clients had an employee who drove over 90 minutes to work each week. He was offered a remote job with almost double the salary, yet he declined it. Why? Because he knew his growth plan and where he would end up if he stayed where he was. The clarity and assurance of his career trajectory made the daily commute worthwhile.

Why Growth Plans Are Important:

?? Clarity: Employees understand their future and stay motivated.

??Engagement: Knowing their growth path increases engagement and loyalty.

??Development: Helps in continuous skill enhancement and personal development.

???Retention: Reduces turnover by providing career advancement opportunities.

??Alignment: Ensures personal goals align with organizational objectives.

Takeaway: Thorough hiring practices and clear growth plans safeguard your brand and foster a thriving work environment.

PANTS ON FIRE ???Myth Busting

Myth: A candidate with a perfect resume and references is a guaranteed good hire.

Reality: A spotless resume can hide serious issues. Always dig deeper.

It’s easy to get dazzled by a candidate’s resume and glowing references. However, a deeper dive can uncover red flags that standard vetting might miss. Utilize comprehensive background checks, behavioral interviews, and trial projects to see candidates in action.?

Implementing such measures can save you from potential disasters and ensure you hire someone truly aligned with your company’s values and needs.
