Ever Feel Like Giving Up?
One day a four year old child who only had partial hearing came home with a note in his pocket from his teacher, “Your Tommy is too stupid to learn, get him out of the school.†His mother read the note and answered, “My Tommy is not stupid to learn, I will teach him myself.†He only had three months of formal schooling.
Tommy grew up to be Thomas Edison, the creator of the light bulb.
A Mindset of Perseverance
How do you take on the mindset of someone who succeeds where others fail?
You can start by look at things differently!
There is no failure, only feedback
†I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.â€
When you choose to see what could be called failure as feedback, everything that happens is then an opportunity to improve and grow. Feedback is a gift! If you’re not receiving feedback then the chances are it’s because you’re not taking action towards your goals.
When the going gets tough….keep going!
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.â€
The finish line is in sight, you’ve done the training to get you there and you have everything you need to cross the line….……do you stop there and give up? Of course you wouldn’t yet many people give up just before they are on the verge of achieving what they set out to do.
When you feel like giving up, this is the time you need to keep going the most!
Whilst stopping can often seem like the easiest and most sensible option when you weigh up all the facts, will it get you the results you want?
Become a Genius
“Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.â€
The power of intention is great. To others looking in, a genius is born…and I would agree….they are born through endless effort and persistence where others will give up. Becoming a genius then follows!
The person with the most flexibility wins!
“There’s a way to do it better – find it.â€
Flexibility is key. If what you are doing isn’t working, rather than giving up, take the feedback and be flexible in changing it.
There are so many ways to get the same result and some will work better than others. How many ways can you think of that you could travel from Glasgow to London? You could crawl, walk, run, ride a bike, drive, even fly. There is no wrong or right way of getting to your goal and when you take the feedback and persist, you can learn from what you have done so far and adapt your approach accordingly.
These are just a few suggestions you can adopt to assist you in persevering with your goals. Whilst giving up may seem easy, is not living the life you want with regret really easier than continuing with working towards the goal you’ve already started?
