Ever been happy/sad? ??

Have you ever been happy and sad at the same time??
I’m experiencing that emotion today. I’m happy for my daughter who is packing her U-haul and moving to L.A. to pursue her passion for dance.???
But, I’m sad to see her move 900 miles south of me. I will miss seeing my best friend in person; talking and laughing and hugging. I know we can talk using facetime or zoom, but honestly, it’s just not the same. ??
Now I must admit, we were not always this close. During her growing up teen years, there were times I thought, “Who is this person?” “How can I get through to her?” “Does she ever listen?”
And I loved her through the tough times (we had many) and the good times.??
When I reflect on what I’ve taught her financially, I’d say teaching her how to budget and continue to refine her budget based on her circumstances, has been a huge achievement.????It’s something that will serve her the rest of her life. I’ve taught her that there’s more than one way to budget. Don’t spend more than you make, and pay off those credit cards each month!!
I am also thankful that I established a 529 savings plan for her when she was an infant and contributed to it monthly.????It has grown and supported her during college and now through dance school.?
Maybe you’re seeing your kid off to college and are experiencing these emotions, too. We bring up our children so they can fly on their own. It’s the hardest part of being a mother, letting them do it on their own. And yet, giving them all our love and support so they’re always welcome home.???
What financial tools are you teaching your kids so they’re ready to soar on their own?
As Lauren makes her way in this world, she knows I will encourage her to do it her way, and I’ll always have the lights on at home when she wants to see her mom. Of course, I’ll be making use of those direct flights down to L.A., too!
Until next time,
Linda
P.S. Can’t wait to share the details for my?VIP in the Pacific Northwest?coming this fall.
