Hey Remote Creatives!

Welcome back to another edition of The Remote Creatives newsletter!

While there are of course events around the year, there also seems to be an official 'festival season' around the end of Spring and going on into early Autumn. So it made sense to check in with an edition of The Remote Creatives newsletter about, you guessed it, events.

Whether you're new to the industry or not, I find it's worth checking different sources for updates, new opportunities and learning about alternative ways to connect with likeminded people. So let's get started!

How to prepare for digital nomad events

Despite what some of the mainstream media may tell you, remote work and life is still in high search and demand, and with it are the events and other initiatives that cater to and tailor around this lifestyle. Which includes in person events and festivals that bring together individuals and companies from across the globe.

Depending on your vibe for mountains versus the beach or a city, these events can be a really great way to connect with not only likeminded professionals, but people living a similar mindset and lifestyle to you as well. And while living location independent from our work is an upside for so many of us, it can get lonely. So the socialising aspect can be just as important to sustain a remote lifestyle also.

So if there is an event or events on your radar this season, here are some of our tips to prepare for it:

  1. Research the schedule: familiarise yourself with the event schedule, highlighting the sessions or workshops that align with your interests and goals, to make the most of your time.
  2. Pack essentials: make sure you have the necessary gear to remote work if you need to. Like a portable and reliable laptop, chargers and any adapters and noise-cancelling headphones. We also make sure we have our e-cards ready (which we create in Canva) when connecting with other attendees (they save on both budget and packing space).
  3. Get connected: check the event's channels for updates and groups, and start connecting with other attendees beforehand. Double check if you'll need an e-sim while you're there as well (if you're new to Airalo, you can use the code HAN7140 for $3 off).
  4. Set goals: what do you hope to achieve from attending the event? Is it gaining new skills? Making industry connections? Or finding inspiration? Create clear goals for yourself, and any brand materials to help you, in order to make the most of your time during and after the event.

After the event

  1. Follow up: exchange contact information with people you meet and follow up with personalised emails or LinkedIn connections after the event. Nurture these relationships by staying in touch, engaging meaningfully online and offering support where you can. (One side note we'll make is to be mindful of any photos and/or videos you take and decide to post online. Be respectful of other people's brands and businesses, and perhaps if you've just met, ask for their permission before posting any content that includes them.)
  2. Attend social events: as we mentioned in the intro, the social aspect can be just as important to sustain a remote lifestyle. So try not to limit your networking to formal sessions. Take advantage of social events during the evenings, like dinners or activities to further connect with fellow nomads in a more relaxed setting. And continue to find ways to develop those connections around the year.

Upcoming events: here are just some of the in-person events coming up

And these are just a few of the amazing live events coming up, but there are so many online to get involved with too! So where will we see you next?
