An eventful year in energy ends on a high note at COP28

When COP28 UAE President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber ended the UN climate summit in Dubai with a bang of the gavel earlier this month, it marked the end of an eventful and transformative year for the energy sector – with the grand finale being the historic agreement at COP28 where 192 countries reached a consensus to move away from fossil fuels and triple renewable energy capacity.

At Energy Connects , our coverage of the industry throughout the year was similarly fast paced, culminating in our extensive coverage of COP28 – where we welcomed IEF - International Energy Forum Secretary General Joe McMonigle and other global thought leaders and industry executives to our exclusive studio. We also provided timely perspectives on landmark developments at COP28 such as the $30-billion Alterra Climate Fund and the Oil & Gas Decarbonisation Charter .

We were also at the forefront of the global energy conversation all year with comprehensive coverage of the key developments shaping the industry – bringing you insights from around the world with onsite presence in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. For the first time, the Energy Connects Studio was an integral part of COP summits, the Canadian Hydrogen Convention , the World Utilities Congress , the Future Energy Asia Exhibition & Summit , and the Nigeria Oil & Gas show – apart from returning to host top industry leaders at ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference , Gastech Exhibition & Conference and EGYPES - Egypt Energy Show .

The distilled insights gathered from Ministers, Secretaries-General, CEOs and other C-level executives of top energy companies brought more readers than ever to the Energy Connects website and social platforms in 2023. Our revamped podcast series saw lively discussions with energy leaders at the International Energy Agency (IEA) , Wood Mackenzie , 波士顿谘询公司 , S&P Global Ratings , 贝恩公司 and more, while our in-depth technical webinars saw record participation from the industry.

Bringing the full spectrum of the energy industry together is an essential part of our DNA, and that’s why this year we were delighted to roll out Connections by Energy Connects. With more than 30,000 products and services from 3,000 leading energy companies, Connections hosts innovative and high-quality products and global brands across all sectors.

The impact of the events of 2023 – especially the milestone decisions of COP28 – will be felt across the industry in the years to come as a more nuanced energy transition picks up pace and balancing it with energy security and growing demand continues to take the centre stage. That reflects in the selection below of our coverage in 2023 from exclusive studio interviews, podcasts, and thought leadership.

But all this wouldn’t have been possible without you – thank you for being a valuable part of the Energy Connects community and for allowing us to bring all the global energy insights to your inbox: we cannot wait to share with you all the exciting plans Energy Connects has in store for 2024!
