Event showcase: FLF

Event showcase: FLF

Hi friend!

Could we even call this a newsletter if we didn't shine a light on the moments that add a sense of delight, panache and wonder to the South African publishing scene? Nay, dear reader, we could not.

It's almost May (it's almost May?!) which means it's almost time for one of the absolute book highlights of the calendar year - FRANSCHHOEK LITERARY FESTIVAL!

FLF, as it is widely known, is a wonderful amalgam of creative forces - it's built for readers, writers, industry, performers, poets and lovers of all things creative. Of course, being held in Franschhoek isn't a bad thing either - the sleepy charm of the winelands and the mountains makes me think that yes, the Muses did in fact build this town expressly for lovers of literature.

Okay, back to the festival! The FLF lists four key objectives on their website:

  1. Bringing together a cross-section of South African and international authors;? ?
  2. Inspiring, delighting, informing and challenging audiences;? ?
  3. Raising funds for local community and school libraries and training and placing assistant school librarians? ?
  4. Establish and maintaining a membership programme to secure the future of the festival and the library programme.? ?

I mean! And don't get me started on the line-up. Alistair Mackay. Aoife Lennon-Ritchie. Adriaan Basson. Adam Welz. Sven Axelrad. Caster Semenya. Danielle Weakly. Jenny Crwys-Williams. Justice Malala. Wisani Mushwana. Zapiro. Thuli Madonsela. Shall I go on?

Check out the full programme here and book your tickets here (and really, do book your tickets ASAP. Events are filling up fast!).

FLF takes place from 17 to 19 May in, you guessed it, Franschhoek. Will I see you there?
