European Congresses Flourish in Glasgow
Glasgow and the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) are reporting the continued increase in delegate numbers across major European conferences. This growth is underlined by the recent success of the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO), which attracted over 7,000 participants. The delegation is the largest ESTRO congress held to date and underlines a growing trend of major congresses expanding in the city.
ESTRO followed the staging of the 50th Annual Meeting of the EBMT (European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation), which attracted a further 4,700 in-person registered participants, and the European Conference on Cystic Fibrosis, which also saw 2,200 researchers, scientists, and medical professionals meet at the SEC.

How does the QEII Centre approach the issue of food waste in its daily operations, and what strategies have been most effective in minimising waste?
Preventing food waste starts in the early planning stages by ensuring that we get portion sizes right, as well as being realistic about the amount of food needed for each event so that we don’t over cater. We also have a staff pantry so that if there are any small amounts of leftover food, we can offer it to the team or potentially use it in the staff restaurant.

AIF to launch multi-venue festival business support programme
The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) will launch a bespoke free business support programme for multi-venue festivals thanks to funding by Arts Council England
Launching in October, the programme will be open to multi-venue festivals operating in England, of which AIF has identified more than 70 in 2024, serving a range of audiences and showcasing a wide variety of genres.
