ICC Wales welcomes Martyn’s Law inclusion in the King’s Speech as legislation is now committed to UK law
Martyn’s Law has been included in the King’s Speech, 17th?July, committing the UK Government to passing it into law.
“Martyn’s Law†is named after Martyn Hett, a victim of the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, and is part of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, aimed at preventing future tragedies. His mother, Figen Murray, has been a vocal campaigner for the law and has pushed the Government to adopt it.

NOEA responds to Martyn’s Law announcements
The National Outdoor Events Association has added its response to the inclusion of Martyn’s Law in the Kings Speech. The association, which has been campaigning for the industry as it builds back better, bold, will put its weight behind any legislation that increases safety and protection for spectators, and the professionalisation of the industry. However, it is also challenging the quality of the bill as it stands.
In a statement, the association commented that, “progress on “Martyn’s Law†was derailed by the calling of a July election, but that both the Labour and Conservative parties included it in their manifestos.†The inclusion of the law in the Kings Speech was only passing in reference, mentioning that “there will also be legislation to introduce measures to improve the safety and security of public venues to keep the British public safe from terrorismâ€.
ESSA announces launch of two carbon calculators and mentoring scheme
The?Event Supplier and Services Association?(ESSA) announced two significant initiatives at this year’s AGM – the launch of two carbon calculators and its first ever mentoring programme.
As part of its continued provision of industry-leading services, ESSA now offers members access to two new carbon calculators to support their journey towards becoming ESSA Accredited in Sustainability. The first calculator enables members to determine the carbon footprint of their entire business, whilst the second focuses on calculating the carbon footprint of individual projects.

Elevate Mentoring opens doors for underrepresented young talent with NewGen initiative
Elevate, the pioneering not-for-profit mentorship programme that has supported and inspired nearly 2,000 event professionals since its inception eight years ago, announces the launch of Elevate NewGen, a brand-new initiative to provide equal access to the events industry for underrepresented talent aged 18-25.
NewGen is a free, three-month part-time programme which includes mentoring, work experience, training, and a supportive community. It helps provide career pathways that offer equal access into the industry and help young people land a paid placement, apprenticeship or a full-time job. It was activated last week at the UK Creative Festival in Margate, which celebrates and showcases the world-beating creativity of the UK sector at every level, from those excelling in their fields to the young creatives who are the architects of the future.
New PIE Working Group launched to support independent AEO event organisers
The Association of Event Organisers (AEO) is excited to announce the launch of its private independent entrepreneur (PIE) working group, set to meet for the first time ahead of the AEO Conference in Manchester on the 4th of September. AEO is already home to many independently owned organisers, and this new group will enable them to meet, collaborate, shape policies, and help highlight the sector’s importance to the government, regulators, and other associations.
Chris Skeith OBE, chief executive of AEO, said: “The launch of the PIE working group recognises the increasingly important part independently owned organisers play in AEO membership and the broader industry. Exhibit 3Sixty delivered Hillhead’s largest number of client transport jobs to date, in its first project as forklift lifting contractor at the UK’s biggest quarrying, construction and recycling exhibition, at Hillhead Quarry, Buxton, 25-27 June 2024.

Eventurous sign Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge
Following an inspiring day at the Beam ESG summit in Milton Keynes, where the Eventurous team, including their very own Greengage Rising Star and Sustainability Champion, Ellie Cashmore met with thought leaders within the events and hospitality industry to exchange knowledge and drive behaviour change, Eventurous announced they have signed the Net Zero Carbon Events pledge.
The news comes shortly after the owner of the sustainable event management agency Joanna Garland was announced as an expert speaker at the London Venues Summit held on July 1st.
