The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission Report: Five Years Later
The financial crisis of 2007-2009 was unexpected by the Federal Reserve, the government and almost all private financial actors. The great housing bubble first created then wiped out trillions of dollars of market value and triggered a deep recession. What caused the crisis? Five years ago, the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission's majority report cited inadequate regulation, clueless policymakers, and reckless behavior by financial firms as the key factors. There were also two dissenting minority reports.
Looking back at the Commission’s report on their fifth anniversary, how do they stand up? What did they get right or wrong? What have we learned since then, and what has already been forgotten? How does the commission compare to historical counterparts following other crises?
Join our expert panel for a spirited discussion of these questions.
