Event Chronicles: "Musings & Mischief" - Q2 7 Figure MSP?

Event Chronicles: "Musings & Mischief" - Q2 7 Figure MSP?

I recently got back from 7 Figure MSP? 's Q2 event in Nashville. This was my second time attending the Chris Wiser led event and I had the privilege to play MC again between speakers and warm up the crowd after breaks.

There were just over 200 MSPs in attendance (In person/Online) which was a very impressive number, the room was packed!

These recaps moving forward will be titled, Event Chronicles: "Musings & Mischief". See Matt Scully , I took your advice.

Here are some musings, observations, and recaps from my perspective.

  1. I think they made a smart move with the attention they spent on finding speakers that would bring a ton of value back to the attendees.

2A. The first VIP speaker was Andre Edwards (FBI Special Agent).

Tom Wyant , MSP Owner of Wyant Computer Services had this to say: "The thing that stood out to me was the dollar amount that is required for the FBI to get involved. Not only does it depend on where the incident took place, but it is also MUCH higher than I expected it to be. It sounds like the FBI is not going to be able to help a lot of people that get breached because their losses won’t meet the requirements." Chris sat down and made this very conversational which I think the crowd enjoyed.

2B. The second VIP speaker and keynote for the event was Christopher Voss , the world's #1 Negotiation Coach, and former FBI agent hostage negotiator. I know several in the industry have heard Chris Voss speak before but this was the first time I had the opportunity.

For such a heavy topic, he was very warm, funny and told some unbelievable stories. He is the type of speaker who has stories you could listen to all day. What is neat about it is, so many of the lessons around negotiations are applicable to everyone in the room whether you were the business owner, marketing/sales, or just for your personal life.

I immediately started thinking about how I was going to use these new tactics when explaining to my wife why I needed to be at an IT conference on our wedding anniversary ?? (True story, it was my anniversary).

3. The above was shared by Chris Voss, I love the message around one of the top reasons a client choses a vendor. It's a reminder to all, continue to educate yourself in your industry, the more knowlede you build, the more you can present yourself as someone who has strong knowledge of your solution area and industry landscape.

4. Having a TV with a live feed of the event in the vendor hall was a nice added touch. The room was packed with MSPs and didn't really have room for vendors (which is totaly fine) and kudoes to the 7 Figure team for filling the room. However, it was a nice added value to the vendors in attendance to be able to listen in on the keynotes and other presentations during the event.

5. Amanda Dake, M.Ed always finds ways to put a creative spin into each event and the theme was "Amp Up Your MSP". The team had a bunch of people say what their tops songs were and they made these records with the responses on them. Additionally she made a Spotify playlist for the entire community based on those responses.

6. Aint no party like a Nashville party. 7 Figure rented out Dirk Bentley's Whiskey Row rooftop. The weather couldn't have been nicer and they had a duo playing country music to top it off.

7. Yes, there was Karaoke. Vendors, MSPs and I believe Chris also participated. Pictured to your right is Tom Wyant and with his pulled back hair he looked like a real country star. Word on the street is Dan DeFay may have took home the award for best singer of the evening.

8. Ken Satkunam, CISM , MSP Owner of NorthStar Technology Group put on a great session about M&A for MSPs. Brian Linning who was watching online had these takeaways from the presentation: "1. Always be ready to sell, your books should be in order for at least the last 3 years and don't co-mingle personal and business. 2. The rule of 40 is very important for M&A. Growrth + Profitability = Good Aquisition Opportunity.

9. I think the team does a great job of bringing in emerging vendors into the conference and giving MSPs and opporutnity to discover them such as Actifile , Apptega , BigOrange Marketing , Lionfish Cyber Security , and Telivy .

10: Special shoutout to the 5 Cow Bell Award Winners: Debbie Bryan , Andrew Naar , Emily Lugo , Ajay Kapoor and Dan DeFay . Cowbell awards were to recognize 7 Figure MSP? Elite Members who have changed the trajectory of their businesses and have found success implementing the strategies taught in the 7 Figure MSP? Elite program. Cowbell award winners were hand-selected by the team and invited to share their success stories on stage.

10. The event was hosted at Margaritaville downtown which was a fantastic location just blocks away from Broadway. They had a nice open bar/restaurant to hang out at and they had live music every night.

As always, I think a proper shout out to the crew that makes an event like this happen. Amanda Dake, M.Ed , Maria Rosenberg , Nora Sherlock , Tiffany Molaskey , Lindsey Badillo , Ryan O'Hara , Cindy Phillips and Kevin who does all the technical behind the scenes stuff.
