The event that changed every CISOs life

The event that changed every CISOs life

CISOs are often made the scapegoat for security incidents, being publicly blamed or fired.

On November 14, 2016 this all changed.

Uber was the target of a lone hacker.

This bad actor gained access to millions of Uber's user data.

How?

By posing as a colleague and later tricking an Uber employee into surrendering their credentials.

Fast forward to October 5, 2022…

For the first time ever, a CISO of a major U.S company was convicted for a data breach and its ensuing cover-up.

The CISO in question, Joseph Sullivan was later sentenced to three years probation.

Upon sentencing, the judge in the case?warned?that if there were a similar case tomorrow, the defendant would be heading to prison.

Whether you agreed with the decision or not…

The message was clear - executive due diligence is of paramount importance where cyber security is concerned.?

So, with insider negligence topping the charts once again as the leading cause of data loss events every year, this begs the question…

Can you really trust your employees?

For most, it’s a difficult question to answer.

But it’s one we believe every CISO should be able to answer with yes.

Why?

Because we believe that your employees are your first and best line of defence.

But, this is only true if they are given the education they need to be your security champions.

Given the right education, your employees will be your most powerful tool in preventing a cyber attack.

How do we know?
