Evenings Include Guessing Games at Midnight

When I gaze on her while she sleeps

She looks frail and broken

Illness from a life led purely for survival

And drugs we used to comfort our hearts

Opened my mind emptying my logic and reason

And still devestate her body

The sins of others

And the spiritual damage of evil deeds

Rack her soul with out mercy.

And yet,

She might be

The strongest woman I have ever loved

Stronger than me

Without question or doubt in my mind

For her heart

Is one I can only

Stare and be amazed at

Not the muscle that struggles

With blood laced with poisons from the street

But the secret heart of her soul

The one she refuses to see

And forgets she owns

For when she does glimpse it

She somehow mistakes it for mine

Perhaps we are both blind

As bats in the night

Using only the sounds

Of our own words of

Love and support that we both

Bounce off each other

Hard, hard living has left us

In the dark so we use

A sonar array tuned to vibrations of love

To guide us through

Our darkening nights

When we both find we are alone

Even with each other.

It's so weird, like it's me , looking on what I have done to myself, hiding and yet don't want to see, ..Great and meaningful poem. I loved it......Mazza!..Gwendolyn
