Even in uncertainty, always take action on your ideas!

I don't know about you all, but I've always held back from deleting my Facebook account, mainly because I find solace in the Memories section. Revisiting my past posts and activities over the past couple of years always hits my nostalgic button.

I came across this memory a couple of months ago, and it hit home this #TransparencyThursday.

I cannot believe that this year ShE is Empowered (ShE) will be entering its fourth iteration, and the Africa Matters Ambassadors Program (AMAP) will be entering its fifth.

Today we have revealed our 2024 Cohorts.

It feels like yesterday when the team and I conceptualised ShE, based on a deep conversation about what it means to be a woman in Africa trying to enter the professional space. We contemplated what resources were out there to facilitate our readiness in this predominantly patriarchal and high-unemployment environment.

We wanted to create a program that resonated with our personal journeys as young black women on the continent trying to obtain professional development skills while wanting to support other women in our communities. What started off as a conversation has now today developed to have tremendous growth and impact over the years.

I am incredibly grateful to Alisha Jean-Denis, PhD and Chmba Ellen Chilemba , who, during their time at We Are Family Foundation , took a chance on our pilot program and donated our first-ever grant. Thereafter, they believed in our potential and work and supported our AMAP program with another grant. This led to more support from our friends at 福特 , who have allowed us to expand our reach and increase the microgrants we offer our ShE Leaders.

I share this to say that no matter how small your idea may seem, it has the potential to expand beyond your wildest dreams!

Please share below your #TransparencyThursday stories about a random thought and/or idea that has now become a program, company, organization any other endeavor. Also, if there are any specific topics you'd like for us to cover during #TransparencyThursday please do share.

Your post resonates with me, highlighting the importance of taking chances and putting in hard work even when the end isn't clear from the beginning. Kudos to you and your team for creating such a targeted program that addresses the pressing gaps faced by many young African girls and women. Indeed this program is contributing to making a significant difference!
