Even More Disturbing Proof That Something Has Gone Terribly Wrong With LinkedIn

This has to be the creepiest and most disturbing evidence of why LinkedIn has drastically deteriorated in value. I’ve attached a screenshot of the InMail message because if I simply pasted the text you wouldn’t believe me. Yeah, this is REAL.

Someone claiming to be a US Army “lieutenant commander” messaged me through LinkedIn offering their “friendship” because they “liked my profile picture on LinkedIn” and think I would be a “good woman” to befriend.

Here's the screenshot of the message:

OK let me stop right there and explain a couple of things. First, it is quickly evident even with a microsecond glance at my profile or its summary in search results that I am not a woman so clearly the spammer didn't even bother to look. But hey if that is not enough to creep you out, how about this:

  • In the US Army, like in many other first world countries, officers are accomplished and educated. A real officer, in fact anyone educated in English would make better use of grammar.
  • Lieutenant Commanders are US Navy and Coast Guard, not Army.
  • The correct abbreviation would be Lt Cdr in the Navy or CG, not Lt. Col. Such discrepancy indicates they are neither because a bona fides officer would clearly know the difference.
  • In the US Army Lieutenant Colonel (silver oak leaf) one step above Major one step below a “full bird” Colonel, a very high rank. It takes many years to get there and under 12% of our military ever attains it. I seriously doubt anyone at this rank is anything short of a proud patriot, to whom the concept of fleeing the country would be inconceivable.
  • “Dancing on a volcano”  What the...?!?!?
  • “Intestines that collide in the abdomen” Uhm... Excuse me?

Thank you, LinkedIn, its been a dozen years since I joined you in 2004 but its now 2016 and this kind of stuff should NOT be coming through. Maybe its time we talk about splitting up…

File under Creepy, Disturbing and downright Unbelievable!

I don't understand why this is so shocking. It is obviously spam. Is this the first time you've ever gotten spam?

Oh Wow! I got that exact SAME InMail a year and a half ago....then another version, but shortly after. I'm afraid you are right Shally, its time to go elsewhere.

Just get over it. If you are online on any platform, you get strange approaches. Just categorise, report and move on.
