?? Evaluate Your Team with These 3 Questions

To build a thriving business, we often focus on strategies, marketing, and product development.

But a crucial element can make or break your success: your team.

Here's a hard truth: The wrong team can be a silent killer, slowly suffocating your growth potential.

As I reminded a Board of Directors coaching client this morning, "You get what you tolerate."

If employees consistently miss KPIs, create drama, or act out of alignment with your company culture, it's time for a serious evaluation.

The 3-Question Litmus Test

To help you assess whether an employee is genuinely contributing to your success, ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Would I Rehire Them? If your honest answer is "no," it strongly indicates they're not the right fit for your company's future.
  2. Would a Competitor Benefit From Them? If you're not worried about losing them to a rival, they might not add the unique value you need.
  3. What's the Impact of Their Departure? If their absence would cause minimal disruption, they might not be as essential to your team as you think.

Why Letting Go Can Be the Best Decision

I know letting someone go is never easy. But holding onto underperforming or disruptive employees can have dire consequences:

  • Morale Drain: Negativity is contagious. One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch.
  • Missed Opportunities: The wrong team can hinder innovation and limit growth.
  • Financial Burden: Low performers cost you money and resources that could be better invested elsewhere.

Building a High-Performing Team

Remember, your team is the engine that drives your business forward.

Surround yourself with people who:

  • Share your values and vision
  • Are passionate about their roles
  • Are hungry to learn and grow
  • Hold themselves accountable to high standards

This creates a culture of excellence that breeds success.
