Evaluate Your Network

Evaluate Your Network

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” -Jim Rohn.

Arguably one of the most impactful concepts in the personal and professional development spaces yet most never act upon it.?

Complacency is not the best manager of your network so it is probably a great idea to ask yourself a few questions.

How often is my network evaluated? ?

How often do I remove connections??

How often do I search to connect and build a stronger network or circle?

For each these answers will be different but here are a couple of stages and strategies that I employ that may be helpful to others.

The Clean Up

  1. Do a full evaluation once a year of all your contacts both social and professional.?
  2. Do quarterly evaluations of different platforms on a rotating basis. Phone contacts, LinkedIn, and Social Media.
  3. Remove connections that do not support you nor you them. I am not talking about followers if you are a creator, but those within reach of you that potentially have some influence or impact in your day.
  4. Remove or minimize the negative. Critical.?Those that are negative are highly contagious.
  5. Relax. You will not miss them nor them you.

The Build (aka the fun part)

  1. Reconnect. You will find when you clean up, there are some amazing folks in your network. Take a moment and drop them a message.
  2. Set a goal of meeting one new person per day. Social or professional. Does not matter. Get out there and meet people.?
  3. Build connected capital. Search for connections that can positively impact your life and you theirs. Be a master networker. Attend events.?
  4. Embrace being uncomfortable. The best connections come from the places you where you may not be in your comfort zone.?
