The EV Revolution. How Fisker Is Building A Sustainable and Beautifully Considered Future.
With the emergence of the new Administration, there's rekindled focus on environmental causes, including rejoining the Paris Climate Accord and strategizing advancements in electric vehicles. At Fisker, we are excited for these renewed efforts as we embark on making the most sustainable SUV, the Fisker Ocean, available from next year in the U.S. and globally.
Over the last year, there has been much debate about expanding tax credits and promoting charging infrastructure. Reimagining federal credits and rebates provides the opportunity to incentivize mainstream buyers to adopt electric vehicles, dovetailing with the launch of new products such as the Fisker Ocean.
We stand at an inflection point for the next automotive revolution. Despite intense global competition, I passionately believe the U.S. can take the lead in electric vehicles. As an industry, we learned - at our cost - the risks of moving too slowly in the face of change. In the 1970s' the catalyst for change was energy. Then it was gasoline; today, it is electrons.
Along with making exciting new electric vehicles more affordable, the government's efforts to expand infrastructure plays a strategic role in electric vehicle deployment and adoption. Despite significant advancements in range and rapid charging, consumers are concerned about access to charging stations both at home and afield, preferring the familiarity of a gas-powered vehicle over the quietly powerful propulsion of an electric car.
Our mission at Fisker is to develop and produce the most sustainable, most beautifully considered electric vehicles. We will educate, inform, and guide regulators and consumers about why owning and operating an electric vehicle presents a better, more environmentally responsible method for meeting one's mobility needs. We intend to work closely with the new Administration to further the cause of electric vehicle adoption over the next four years and beyond.
A combination of consumer education, new models, government policy, and increased capacity led to a major inflection of EV demand in Europe in 2020. I believe the demand for EVs in the U.S. will similarly change trajectory in 2024, to 15% or higher. This is in tandem with Fisker’s plan to launch additional production in America in 2024, and as the industry witnesses the birth of new brands and models, with aspirations for a bright, exciting future for U.S.-based manufacturing and well-paying jobs. However, these lofty goals need the full support of the new Administration to come to fruition.
Ultimately, electrification fosters America's love of personal mobility with sustainable, clean, and, yes, beautifully considered, automobiles. Our challenge is ensuring American innovation, production, and workforce grasps this opportunity.
