The Fuel Crisis Continues & EV Enquiries Skyrocket

Petrol prices continue to rise as cost on forecourt reaches the highest point since 2013 and shortages remain serious. Locally, many petrol stations on the Isle of Wight continued to experience shortages into October (causing long queues).

New figures from the UK government show the average price of a litre of petrol has gone up by more than 1p in the past week - while diesel is up more than 1.5p. This is likely to rise. An average tank of petrol is now £13 more than this time last year, and diesel is almost £16 dearer to fill a van.

However, another figure that seems to be rising is the number of electric vehicle enquiries. EVA England, a non-profit representing new and prospective EV drivers, reports a rise in electric car inquiries and in interest at EV dealers, particularly in the last two weeks.

We are expecting the Q4 21 numbers for electric vehicles sold to be some of the highest to date.?

UN Climate Change Conference: COP26

The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31 October – 12 November 2021.

We are excited for this as one of the primary objectives is to "Secure global net-zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach".?

Countries are being asked to come forward with ambitious 2030 emissions reductions targets that align with reaching net zero by the middle of the century. To deliver on these stretching targets, countries will need to:

  • Curtail deforestation
  • Accelerate the phase-out of coal
  • Speed up the switch to electric vehicles
  • Encourage investment in renewables

Salary Sacrifice Scheme for IOW Companies

Following the IW Chamber Business Expo last month, we have been spreading the word all about our Salary Sacrifice Scheme for employers.

Island businesses (PC Consultants pictured above with a Tesla) are taking advantage of this great initiative already.

What is the Salary Sacrifice Scheme?

The electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme lets you pay for an eco-friendly car each month with pre-taxed income with other deducted contributions. It’s the same as when using childcare or cycle to work schemes, but instead, it applies only to electric vehicles!

The benefits of the scheme include:

  • Staff retention
  • Tax and fuel savings
  • Eco-credentials

Talking About Tesla...

Tesla is releasing a new model of the popular electric vehicle.

Tesla, Model Y is designed to be the safest vehicle in its class. The low centre of gravity, rigid body structure and large crumple zones provide great protection and comfort.

Being able to carry 7 passengers and with plenty of range (315 on a single charge), this car can be the perfect 'Executive Family Vehicle' for the Isle of Wight roads.

It will be released in 2022 - we'll keep you updated when ordering is available and who knows... maybe we'll be able to bring one to the Island for test drives! :)

Ford Make a £230 Million Investment Into EVs

Ford has announced it will invest £230m in a Merseyside transmission factory to upgrade it to make parts for electric vehicles, in a significant fillip for northern England’s automotive industry.

We see this as exciting news as manufacturers are starting to respond seriously to the increased demand for EVs. It is expected that by 2024, this new factory will produce 250,000 electric vehicles every year.

The domino effect of situations like this is cheaper EVs, better batter ranges and more choice for consumers.

More Islanders Go Electric

We continue to get daily enquiries from Island companies and individuals for Electric Vehicles. Very refreshing to see!

Graham Barnetson (pictured with his wife Jacqui on the right) has recently taken delivery of a fully electric MG ZS. With a 275 mile range, this is the perfect SUV for the Island... and quite a classy one at that.

We were very pleased with the feedback received:

"Exceptional service, from initial contact through delivery and after-sales, we can not recommend Paul, Nancy, and the team highly enough. There are many out there who can lease you a car, but I challenge you to find a business that is as friendly, personable, and cares as much as these guys do. And to top it all off they do it at brilliant prices as well."
