Are EVs?Actually?Good For The Planet?

We get?asked this question all the time. Unfortunately, a lot of?pseudoscience?circulates the internet. But what are the facts?

  • Currently, EVs produce more CO2e (Carbon Dioxide Equivalent)?during their production than?combustion engine vehicles. This is mostly due to battery manufacturing and associated material mining.
  • However, CO2e emissions across the lifecycle of EVs (compared to combustion engines) are far lower.?
  • A study released by ElementEnergy for BEUC this month states that a small electric car saves 20.9 tonnes of CO2e compared to a small petrol car over its lifetime. That’s a total reduction of 63%!

Therefore, the science says EVs are not?perfect?for the planet. But they are definitely?good,?and far better than combustion engine vehicles.

Plus, as technology advances, the 63% reduction will only get better.

July's Best Sellers

This month we have a completely new league table! As the EV market continues to expand in choice, these 3 podium-takers are definitely worth keeping a close eye on.

???Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford's Mustang Mach-E is far from a dull EV. The use of that famous name - and the styling cues that go with it - has certainly divided opinion, but it's also inspired the Blue Oval brand to give this family-sized sporting SUV a charisma its obvious rivals lack. Plus if you go for the larger 'Extended Range' battery option, you'll get yourself an EV offering a very decent all-electric driving range too.

???Peugeot e-2008

Peugeot's second generation 2008 is a small SUV with plenty of sophistication. Supermini-based, it offers all the advantages of that compact runabout you were thinking of, together with the kind of added space, style and light off-road driveability you probably never expected to be able to enjoy on a small car budget.

???Cupra Born

Fledgling Spanish brand CUPRA offers a surprisingly appealing compact family EV with sporting genes, this car, the Born. It takes all the clever ingredients of other VW Group EVs, but blends them into a more engaging and characterful confection.
