What is with the Grid and future EV's?
I get this so often, how is the Grid supporting the EV's?
I say Electric Transportation is the future and will bring many more changes to make the world more sustainable. It is my personal opinion and I love to hear feed back on my thinking. Yes the grid is a big problem, there is so much energy lost in the grid, transportation, transformation and changeover. Further more, the national grid is aging. We need to improve and renew the grid and take effort of the grid by localizing the energy source. Every City should have power generation, Water, Wind, Solar, Thermal, Bio Gas, Burning Wast, CNG and LPG. Every City should have lots of energy storage. Battery (EV use batteries from 100% to 80% in eight years then it should be used as storage device from 79% down to 20% over the next 20 years), water or heat (molten salt). Los Angeles for example: The rain water is running straight to the ocean. It should be collected in a lake, then when excess power is generated from all the solar, it will be pumped back in to the LA mountains. Now you have energy storage and access to water. Every Freeway needs to have a wireless inductive charge line starting from the left (carpool line) and every freeway needs to have a overhead power line for truck usage. Every single truck should have a generator bolted to the engine and NOT a transmission, uses the electric motor to drive the truck and for regenerative braking, just have a small battery on board to bridge the drive from freeway to destination. Now the gas milage is going true the roof and maintenance cost drops and the trucks last longer. Even if you burn cole or other fossil fuels in the interim local at power generation systems, it is much easier to build and install emission filtration on a stationary installation then to try to keep them small in millions of vehicles. DPF systems are big heavy, costly, engineering night mare and the list goes on.
Trucks should not park on the side of the road to get rest time and idle to keep the goods frozen. A nation driver network should be established and when a driver is close to its time limit, a relive driver takes over and keeps the good moving. That will keep the drivers local and home with families and a local driver is more efficient knowing local road conditions and traffic situations.
There is so much more to do and we will do it with or without help at Electric Built.
