Euthanasia -Choices that break your heart

Sabrina, who is a malti-poo came into our lives three years ago. Her mother had passed away and her family couldn't keep her any longer. We took her in and treated her like the lady of the house. She was standoffish at first, but she came to love us as we loved her.

She didn't like toys, or treats, and her diet consisted of kosher chicken breasts and kibble.

Her joy in life came from from long walks and being in the shopping cart of any

store that allowed dogs. She was partial to Marshall's.

We knew when we took possession of this little lady , we knew that she had health issues.

She was eleven .

The vet said she had kidney failure and heart failure .

We made a conscious effort to give her good food,

good love and a good life.

She hated taking pills and fought us tooth and nail.

We stopped torturing her and let her live a life in peace.

In the past month she started limping and was clearly in pain. She paced all night and we put her on a ground up heart medicine and shoved prednisone down her throat.

She pulled it together for a few weeks, but then she lost her appetite and her joy for

walking. She slept the deep sleep for 23.5 hours a day.

I started praying for her to go in her sleep. To not force me to make the decision to put her

down. We spoke to the vet three times in the "put down " room, but

couldn't pull the trigger.

Now as she stands out in the yard, completely lost, frozen ,I realize that I need to be the one

to make the call.

Our appointment is tonight at 7:00 pm.

It’s heart wrenching and heartbreaking to have a constant companion, so sweet and true die in your arms.

But you need to love them enough to do the best for them.

Say a prayer for our Sabrina that she will meet her first mom in doggy heaven and greet us one day too.

My heart is with you. I understand the pain, and am sorry you had to endure it.
