EU's Support for Indian MSMEs Amid CBAM Implementation

As the European Union (EU) prepares to implement its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) in 2026, it has committed to supporting Indian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in navigating the challenges posed by this new carbon tax. This initiative aims to facilitate compliance for Indian businesses that export carbon-intensive goods, such as cement and steel, which are critical to India's trade with the EU.

The CBAM will impose levies on imports of goods produced with high carbon emissions, potentially impacting approximately 45% of India's exports to the EU. To mitigate these effects, the EU plans to fund decarbonization technologies and provide resources under the EU-India Policy Dialogue Support Facility (PDSF).
