European move

European move

In 2020 I had my first international move to manage. The clients were headed to Europe–and I was literally handed the keys and asked to handle it.

The homeowners had an extremely tight deadline-in fact, they had already left Canada when I got to the house. The realtor needed to list and stage in record time. Needless to say, there was an overwhelming amount of things that needed to be done.

Since the homeowners had already gone on to Europe, this job meant I had to oversee absolutely every detail, from choosing an overseas mover, to arranging dump runs.

In addition, the house had to be listed quickly–it couldn’t just sit here empty. In two days I had the contents of the house packed and removed. Here’s some of the details that had to be handled:

  • a car had to be sold!
  • extra furniture had to be put into storage
  • unwanted furniture and clothing had to be given to charities
  • pickup of donations had to be arranged and scheduled
  • all kinds of liquids had to be disposed of (cleaning supplies, food items, alcohol)
  • the house needed a through clean, from top to bottom: a cleaning crew had to be hired
  • a handyman had to be hired to take stuff to the city dump, move furtniture, and other assorted chores

Even tasks like taking trash to the dump weren’t straight forward, because there were fees involved.?

In addition, packing for an overseas move is different than a regular cross-country move: special bubble wrap called kruble is needed to protect furniture as it sits in a shipping container.

I’m happy to report the move was a big success....even if the timeline was absolutely crazy.?

This type of move gave me insight as to how very many details are involved in moving to another country....and how many other service provides need to be hired.

Now I can confidently say that I can manage just about any move!
