This is a list of the top 20 universities based on citations per paper over the last 5 years (2016-2020) out of the more than 100 universities with more than 12,000 papers over the past 10 years in Web of Science (2011-2020).

The list is now dominated by universities from Europe including 4 from England, 2 from the Netherlands and 1 each from Belgium, Spain, and Norway. There are also 9 in total from the USA and one each from Canada and Australia.

The University of Groningen is now number 17 of the world.
