Europe is one of the most popular travel destinations worldwide because of its medieval fairytale-like architecture and ample job opportunities that attract immigrants for career, employment, and leisure. Europe consists of 44+ countries, some of them are part of the Schengen and European Union, while others are independent.

Europe is divided into six regions, Eastern, Western, Central, Northern, Southern, and Caucus.

Schengen Area, European Union (EU), and European Economic Area (EEA) often confuse the people. They refer to integration, movement of people, and economic cooperation.

1. Schengen Area

The Schengen Area is a zone of 29 European countries that have officially abolished all passports and border control at their mutual borders. This means that internal borders within the Schengen Area are effectively treated as if they were non-existent, allowing for the free movement of people between member countries.

2. European Union (EU)

The European Union is a political and economic union of 27 European member countries. It was established to promote economic cooperation, social progress, and peace among its members. Not all EU member states are part of the Schengen Area (Ireland and the UK have opt-outs), and not all Schengen Area countries are part of the EU (Norway and Switzerland).

It extends the EU's single market to these three countries, allowing them to participate in the EU's internal market without being full EU members. The EEA provides for the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people between the EU member states and the EEA countries. However, unlike EU members, EEA countries do not participate in EU policies related to agriculture, fisheries, justice and home affairs, or customs union.

Types of Visas for Europe Job Search for Immigrants?

Few European countries offer visas designed for immigrants who want to enter the country to look for work. These are called Job Seeker Visas.

Germany offers a Job Seeker Visa that allows qualified professionals to stay in Germany for up to six months while they search for jobs. To be eligible, you must have a university degree or equivalent qualification, at least two years of professional experience, and proof of sufficient funds to support yourself in Germany.

Austria offers a Red-White-Red Card which allows highly skilled workers to live and work in Austria. To be eligible, you must have a relevant university degree or equivalent qualification, three years of work experience in a relevant field, and a job offer from an Austrian employer. However, you can apply for the Red-White-Red Card even if you can prove that you have the skills and qualifications that are in demand in Austria.

Portugal offers a Job Seeking Visa that allows you to stay in Portugal for up to one year while you look for work. To apply for a Portugal job seeker visa, you must have a valid passport, funds, health insurance, and skills and education to find a job in Portugal.

Sweden also offers job seeker visas to immigrants, however, as it’s located a little far the flights and living expenses might be a bit expensive with a language barrier. To apply for a job seeker visa, you must have educational qualifications, a passport, no criminal record, and funds.?
