Europe Core Delivery for SAS
Delivery team leads mainframe decommissioning project for SAS, Sweden to a successful end
Scandinavian Airlines System, usually known as SAS, is the flag carrier of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The airline operates 180 aircraft to 90 destinations and carries more than 28 million passengers yearly.
For this customer, our colleagues from the Mainframe decommissioning team at SAS account, Sweden, completed a project to migrate several applications from the old/original z12 IBM Mainframe system to a Wintel platform.
The most complex task was to migrate three applications from the mainframe environment to a JBOSS Enterprise Application Platform on BizCloud (Windows). BizCloud combines the advantages of both private and public clouds. Another two applications were migrated from mainframe to a Micro Focus platform on BizCloud (Windows). And finally, the mainframe batch process handling was migrated for six applications to a Universal Controller/Stonebranch platform on BizCloud (Windows), which makes it easier for users to access and monitor.
During the process of applications converting and testing, the team discovered several defects within the business rules and fixed them, improving the applications’ accuracy and reliability. Lower operational costs were the ultimate benefit that this project brought to the SAS client. The next step will be to a later deployment to the Azure platform which is in line with SAS’s long-term strategy.
