A whistleblower claims that Europcar incentivised its employees to cheat their customers. Allegedly, ￡4 was paid for every car identified as "damaged" on its rental return.
Europcar is accused of "systematically overbilling well over half a million customers for at least ￡30m in repairs over many years". The director of the National Body Repair Association is quoted as saying that "paying staff for spotting damages could create a potential conflict of interest resulting in unnecessary repairs being made".
And here - again - comes the compliance domino effect. The Telegraph reports that "evidence is also emerging that dishonest practices at Europcar are endemic across the car hire industry...as the car giant faces police investigation, research also shows that Avis, another major firm, may be charging its customers over the odds for repairs on hire cars". #ComplianceDominoes
Odd that no one spoke up about these alleged practices previously. Time for a hard look at compliance programmes in this industry? #TimeforTransparency

1 年I have been asked to pay for 'invented' damage to tyres on the last two occassins I have rented cars via Europcan at Edinburgh Airport. I can confirm that there was no damage. The best thing you can do is just refuse to pay. They are unlikely to take legal action if the amount is less that 150 GBP. Even if they do, they would look like plonkers in court.
