EUROCORR 2018: My Experience in Kraków, Poland
EUROCORR, the Congress of the European Federation of Corrosion, is one of the biggest and most important corrosion conference in Europe. This year’s focus was on “Applied Science with Constant Awareness,” offering a unique opportunity to present EonCoat? to the energy and industrial sectors of Europe. Approximately 600 people from all over the world attended the conference in September, including some of the biggest names in oil & gas, energy, coatings, and more.
The location of the conference changes annually, with a different European city hosting. This year the event was held in Kraków, Poland. When I first found out that EUROCORR 2018 would take place in Kraków, my initial thoughts sprang from what I knew from movies and television — admittedly, a less than complete picture of the city. I didn’t expect how my experience in Kraków at EUROCORR 2018 would reshape how I viewed this 1,300-year-old city and my view of the country of Poland as a whole.
I Discover Poland, The World Discovers EonCoat?
I arrived in Kraków late on Friday night. Driving my rental car to the hotel in the pitch black, I couldn’t really see anything; I could have been anywhere in Europe for all I knew. It was after midnight by the time I got settled, grabbed a bite to eat, and got into bed.
I woke up eager to explore the area. On the weekend before EUROCORR 2018 began, I took the opportunity to visit Kraków, Wroc?aw, and other sights of southern Poland to learn about this country’s sobering past and to experience its vibrant present. This region is far more modernized and lively than what I’d expected. It is a place full of energetic hope for the future and, in some areas, deep respect for the past.
It wasn’t long before Monday morning rolled around and it was time to embrace the reason I had come to Poland. As soon as I stepped into the EUROCORR 2018 conference, I could tell it was going to be a very different environment than what I had imagined. The state-of-the-art ICE Congress Centre was modern and bright — optimism was in the air.
The event organizers and the Polish Corrosion Society members ensured an incredible conference and were an absolute pleasure to spend time with. On top of that, I had the privilege to meet intelligent, dynamic attendees from all over Europe, which was an extraordinary and eye-opening experience. I felt honored to be among some of the most innovative minds working on anti-corrosion efforts.
For me, the most significant moment of the conference came on Tuesday afternoon. It was the moment when the world first found out about EonCoat’s important role in the oil and gas industry from one of the biggest players in this space. Chevron. The place I go for gas. The place you go for gas. The place it seems everyone goes for gas. In this moment, I felt incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished with our revolutionary product and how EonCoat is contributing to the fight against corrosion. It was the perfect way to end the second day of this prestigious conference, held — quite fittingly — in a city that is determined to keep moving forward.
Lasting Impressions From EUROCORR 2018
As the sun rose on Wednesday morning, I was sailing through the sky back to America with Kraków still on my mind. Kraków — this year’s host of the impressive EUROCORR 2018, where the efficacy of EonCoat? was introduced to the world.
I will go back to Kraków to be with its people again the first chance I get. But for now, the message that came out of EUROCORR 2018 echoes far beyond the city: corrosion can be prevented with real innovation.
