Eurelectric goes to Enlit Europe
Eurelectric
Voice of European electricity. Leading the energy transition through electrification #WePowerEU #Grids4Speed
This week in Frankfurt, Germany, Enlit Europe hosted their annual event with representation from end to end of the energy agenda. The 3-day event from 29 November – 1 December hosted countless discussions with some 500 speakers, among 700 exhibitors for 15,000+ attendees. Eurelectric was proud to be one of those exhibitors, contributing to five separate discussions and also counting five among the attendees. Here is the recap.
Digitopia 3.0
One of our big contributions was the 3rd annual rendition of our #Digitopia event. Live on 29 November, we gathered experts in the realm of digitalisation to discuss the necessity of digital upscaling in the European power sector. Among the speakers included Ana Domingues from 微软 , Vincent Berrutto and Stephan Lechner from the European Commission ’s DG ENER, Luis Vale Cunha from EDP , Gianni Ceneri from Gridspertise , Nuno Medeiros from E-REDES , Lo?c Tilman from Elia Group , Hafid Elabdellaoui from 甲骨文 , and Moderators Andrea Falciai from 埃森哲 and Anca Gurzu from Cipher News . Some key quotes below:
“Data management has a lot of challenges: it is complex, expensive, and time intensive. We must make data sharing easy, as open as possible and equitably scalable. EU Digitalisation Action Plan points to 3 big use cases: flexibility services, smart charging and smart buildings – these are to most benefit from common European data space.” ~ Ana Domingues, Director Energy Industry Executive, Microsoft
“Energy grids need to be made smarter… €20 million has been made available for [that]” ~ Vincent Berrutto, Head of Unit, Innovation, research, competitiveness, and digitalisation, DG ENER
“[A] digital grid is the foundation of the future energy systems.” ~ Andrea Falciai, Managing Director, Accenture
Power Plant
Growing legs of its own, our #PowerPlant project made yet another appearance following its presentation at #COP27 in Egypt and Memorandum of Understanding with The Nature Conservancy on implementing its recommendations. At Enlit, Bruce Douglas , our Communications and Business Director, presented our vision on tackling the climate and biodiversity crisis in tandem through integrated renewables projects. This complementary model explored in the project will be vital to bringing hundreds of gigawatts of renewable energy online in the coming years to ween ourselves off our foreign fossil fuels dependency and stave off the energy crisis. Check out the project to learn more about how we can do that.

Power Barometer
Speaking of the energy crisis, in the form of a TED Talk, Bruce Douglas also presented the key elements from our annual Power Barometer. #PowerBarometer22 highlighted key facts and figures of the ongoing crisis and made for a timely snapshot of where the power sector was at in September this year. Even still, the findings are relevant. Recommendations stemming from the data analysis include:

EVision
Among the bigger events, we also hosted a more private one for the #EVision Business Hub. The meeting with our EV-involved business members was a chance for these EVisionaries to meet in person and exchange expertise and ideas about integrated smart charging solutions – a critical enabler of rapid electrification of our vehicle stock. Specific presentations included Petar Georgiev from AMPECO , Ignacio Diaz from 华为 , Alexander Schuller from Enphase Energy and Jennifer von Lindenfels from Honda R&D Europe showcasing their companies’ case studies to peers. With just a few months to go until our annual EVision event, we invite you to check out the business hub and learn more about Europe’s opportunities and challenges to electrifying transportation. Also, feel free to join the conversation on our LinkedIn group .
Initiate start-up pitch
Finally, we were happy to cohost an afternoon of start-up pitching on 30 November alongside Enlit’s innovation programme, Initiate! The inaugural Four Ds Pitching Festival was an excellent opportunity for start-ups with solutions to address the four ‘Ds’ of the energy transition: decarbonisation, digitalisation, decentralisation, and democratisation – as well as use-cases in smart & sustainable buildings, electric mobility, and 24/7 carbon-free energy sourcing. We heard some excellent solutions from many start-ups, but we want to especially congratulate the winners:
MET3R for the ‘Democratisation’ category rebase.energy for the ‘Digitalisation & Decentralisation’ category 1s1 Energy for the ‘Decarbonisation’ category
We want to extend an electric thank you to the organising team at Enlit, including Paddy Young and Rogier Kuttschreuter . If you missed this year’s event, not to worry. Next year’s is already in the works. Next stop: Paris. You can find out more about Enlit here .
