The European Union (EU) has announced its continued support for Ukraine’s green recovery by launching a new initiative, titled EU4Green Recovery East. This project, in collaboration with European partners, aims to foster the development of a circular economy, sustainable water management, and environmental data management within the Eastern Partnership countries, including Ukraine.
Spanning four years, EU4Green Recovery East comes with a total budget of EUR 21.5 million. This initiative is particularly significant for Ukraine as it prepares for extensive reconstruction efforts. The program is designed to provide Ukraine with broad opportunities and substantial support in its recovery process.
Currently, the EU is working alongside UNDP Ukraine to draft the "On Green Recovery" law. This proposed legislation aligns with the Green Taxonomy and draws from the EU's experience to strategize Ukraine’s sustainable recovery.
Furthermore, EU4Green Recovery East presents Ukrainian businesses with the chance to enhance resource efficiency and generate new employment opportunities. Preparatory measures are already underway, including the development of a work plan tailored to Ukraine’s specific requirements. This preparation phase will lead to technical meetings involving specialists from various relevant fields.
The European Union, alongside its partners—Expertise France, the French International Office of Water Resources, OECD, UNECE, UNIDO, and the Austrian Environment Agency—is committed to providing systematic support to Ukraine. This collaboration highlights the strategic partnership between the EU and Ukraine, focusing on environmental protection and recovery in times of adversity.
The EU4Green Recovery East initiative is a testament to the collaborative efforts aimed at supporting Ukraine’s sustainable development and recovery, marking a step forward in the country’s journey towards reconstruction and environmental resilience.
