The European Commission has rejected Italy’s budget, saying it had “no alternative” but to demand changes after Italy projected a deficit of 2.4% of GDP — triple the EU mandated target of 0.8%. It’s the first time the EU has failed to endorse a member state’s draft budget. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, whose government has been given three weeks to submit a new proposal, says there is “no Plan B”. ? Here’s what people are saying.
Uber is set to increase fares in a bid to become fully electric in London by 2025. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi says a 15 pence per mile “clean air fee” will be added to each trip from next year to help its drivers transition to electric vehicles. The company currently has 45,000 drivers in the city, and expects 20,000 to switch to electric by 2021. In June, Mayor Sadiq Khan announced drivers of diesel and high-polluting vehicles will face a £12.50 daily charge. ? Here’s what people are saying.
Saudi Arabia’s three-day investment summit kicked off yesterday under a cloud of questions surrounding the death of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. The Future Investment Initiative was meant to showcase the kingdom’s economy, but many business and government leaders — including JPMorgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon, Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser and Credit Suisse CEO Tidjane Thiam — dropped out. Weeks after Turkey first said Khashoggi was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, the kingdom acknowledged his death. ? Here’s what people are saying.
Premier Inn’s owner Whitbread says it will “stamp across Europe” using proceeds from its sale of Costa Coffee. The company is planning a push into Germany’s €52.6 billion hotel market, where it currently has one Premier Inn in Frankfurt, with plans to open in Munich and Hamburg — bringing its total to 33 hotels and 6,000 rooms in Germany by 2021. Whitbread surprised investors when it announced last month it was selling Costa Coffee to Coca-Cola for $3.6 billion. ? Here’s what people are saying.
Europe’s favourite tech startup hub is still London — but the city’s popularity is dwindling. That’s according to a European Startup Initiative survey of 540 tech founders who were asked, “Where would you start if you could begin all over again?” As Brexit approaches, London fell from 55% to 41% compared with last year. Berlin placed second with 40% of the vote, while Barcelona and Paris remain in third and fourth positions with 20% each. Lisbon jumped from eighth position to fifth with 12%. ? Idea of the Day: Great managers focus on their staff, says leadership coach Sanyin Siang.
“Good leaders know that in developing others the focus should be on the one you’re helping… how often do we find ourselves being more preoccupied with our own wisdom, rather than the person who sought out that wisdom.”

6 年Uber is speaking and acting like a London provider when they are operate only because a judge sayed this, "they are not fit and proper to hold a license in London" TfL said. Why they are doing this when in september they'll be out ? Been out from London will probably be the start to be out from the entire Europe.

6 年Blaming other countries of the problems of your own country is a question of immaturity. We are all Europe and we have the same weight. The difference is that the politicians of some countries are active and want to improve things while the politicians in many others are there only in the EU for the incredible pays and allowances they get. EU is the best thing that happen to Europe in the whole history. Unfortunately the other world powers want to destroy it. They just need to pay a few politicians with populist ideas and they are succeeding! It is a pity that educated middle class people with international experience start thinking that EU should go. Ps: the democracy in Italy is questionable, the Mafia still rules the country in a big percent. It was born as a terrorist organization not to pay taxes to Aragon Kings. It defined the standards of avoiding taxes, ... people are always amazed how well society, education, health care works in the north of Europe. It is simple, we pay 50% of our salary in taxes and we do it not because we are idiots but because society is much better and people do not need charity, society takes care of it!

European Union is just a corrupt megastructure that did nothing against Spanish crook governments because they were shared parties as criminal comrades, but now sabotages Italian government because its parties are not part of their bands of traitors to Europe.
