EU Grants €24 Million to Gambia for Solar Electrification, Kenya’s 40 MW Solar Project to Commence Operation in 2024, And Much More..

The African Development Bank Group Bank has approved a grant of $28.49 million to Ghana for the construction of #renewableenergy infrastructure. The funding, which comes from the Climate Investment Funds , will be used to construct #minigrids, standalone #solarphotovoltaic systems and solar-based #battery facilities. The project consists of the design, engineering, supply, construction, installation, testing and commissioning of #renewableenergy systems on the island communities in the Volta Lake region.

The European Union (EU) has announced the provision of a grant aiming to accelerate the implementation of the ‘Gambia Renewable Energy’ project. The €24 million grant, accompanied by an €8 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB), will enable the electrification of several schools and health centers in rural regions of the country through #solarenergy.The funding for renewable energy development was approved by the EU on the sidelines of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which recently took place in Doha, Qatar.

Orange Cote d'Ivoire d’Ivoire has signed an agreement with the Africa-focused solar energy company SolarX for the solarization of its two data centres. Through this partnership, subsidiary of the French multinational telecommunications corporation, Orange, aims to improve the carbon footprint of its data centres in West Africa. The agreement concerns the installation of #solarpanels for powering Orange’s Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast-based data centres.

Ergon Solair Africa Limited, a company with US-European-Kenyan ownership, is developing the Kisumu Solar One 40MWAC Solar Project in Kibos (Kajulu), with planned commissioning and operation in 2024. The project, which is endorsed by the Government of Kenya, is planned to have a capacity of 40 MWAC with single axis tracking, on a 249 Acre land, located 8 kilometers from the Kibos new Sub Station. The project has a first year estimated output of 103,000 MWh, which will be fed into the Kibos substation.

Inspired Evolution , a pan-African private equity firm based in Cape Town, South Africa, has raised $199.4 million in funding from a number of international funders in order to finance the #cleanenergy transition in Africa. The portfolio manager is committed to remove the barrier on access to finance for the development of #renewableenergy. Inspired Evolution has targeted the capitalization of $400 million in the Evolution III fund and has a 12-to-18-month window to achieve the target.
