Despite bold ambitions, it takes an average of 10 years before new mines can be operational - yet demand for critical raw materials is predicted to skyrocket 500% by 2050, according to the World Bank.

To tackle this issue head-on, policymakers are attempting to create awareness around streamlining permitting procedures across all EU countries; unfortunately, due to national competency regulations, they may find themselves with limited ability as local opposition increases from citizens who wish more stringent precautionary measures taken.
