International Day of Education
Did you know that January 24 was International Day of Education? On this day, the UN highlights the fact that without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind. This year the event was dedicated to all the girls and women in Afghanistan who have been denied their right to learn, study and teach.
To mark International Day of Education, on the Code Week portal we reflected on our mission to support coders on their learning journey with the release of a post about CodeGuppy, a programming language website for teaching and learning Javascript and a great resource for teachers and Code Week Community! Code Week Edu Coordinators meet online
The EU Code Week Edu Coordinators gathered online on Friday 3 February, to reflect on EU Code Week 2022 and discover the planned activities for the upcoming Code Week 2023.

In particular, the Edu Coordinators shared national actions around the digital transformation of education and the ways they are strengthening EU Code Week at national level, and reflected on the ways they can support the 11th edition of EU Code Week. Also in the meeting, the EU Code Week team presented upcoming Code Week activities, such as the MOOC on Unlocking the Power of AI in Education, study groups on the MOOC, and so on.
International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Did you know that, according to the United Nations, women are typically given smaller research grants than their male colleagues and, while they represent 33.3% of all researchers, only 12% of members of national science academies are women, and that, in cutting edge fields such as artificial intelligence, only one in five professionals (22%) is a woman?
On February 11, the UN marks International Day of Women and Girls in Science to draw attention to these issues. This year, the event will focus on the role of women and girls and science as related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To mark the occasion, on the Code Week portal we published a blog celebrating the contributions of women to science. Why not check it out.?
