Poland's grid operator, Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), has ordered its third disconnection of renewable energy capacity, reducing 1,201 MW to 1,877 MW of photovoltaic (PV) capacity due to oversupply in the National Power System.

The move is part of a larger effort to manage Poland's growing share of PV.

The country needs to invest around 500 billion zlotys ($126 billion) in transmission and distribution grids by 2040, with a new energy strategy aiming for 74% of energy coming from zero-emission sources.

Poland's cumulative installed PV capacity reached 12.4 GW at the end of 2022, making it Europe's third-largest solar market.

Europe records 24 PPA deals for 1.1 GW of solar in February.

In February, 24 power purchase agreements (PPAs) were signed for 1.1 GW of solar capacity in 14 European countries, marking a significant month in the European PPA market, according to Swiss consultancy Pexapark.

Google was the largest buyer with 728 MW, while utilities were involved in four of the agreements.

Spain led in volume with 562 MW in six deals, while Germany led in total agreements with 13 PPAs.

Poland and Italy also stood out with eight and five agreements, respectively.

Solar led with 24 agreements totaling 1,107 MW, followed by onshore wind with 14 deals for 582 MW and offshore wind with 8 contracts for 622 MW.
