EU 2019/2020 requirements and application process for the new version of the EU ERP energy efficiency certification

The European Commission formulated the official version of the Eco-Design Regulations (EU) 2019/2020 for light sources and independent controllers on October 1, 2019, which was officially released on December 5, 2019, and will be compulsory on?September 1, 2021. Repeal the original regulations (EC) 244/2009, (EC) 245/2009, (EU) 1194/2012, and implement the ErP directive (Directive 2009/125/EC). This regulation sets specific limit values, including: energy efficiency requirements (Energy Efficiency requirements), function requirements (Function requirements) and information requirements (Information requirements).

Scope of application:

1. Luminaires and light sources for lighting (excluding LED chips and LED packages)

2. Independent controller

Revised and changed content:

1. Facilitate the supervision of the committee and the verification of market supervision

2. Reduce the number of samples for compliance test parameters (reduced from the original 20 samples to 10)

3. Reduce the time of the test procedure (the burn-in test is reduced from the original 6000 hours to 3600 hours)

4. A unified formula to calculate the energy efficiency of lighting products.

The regulations do not apply to the following special purpose products tested and certified:

1. In a potentially explosive environment

2. Emergency use

3. Radiological and nuclear medicine facilities

4. In or on military or civil defense facilities, equipment, ground vehicles, marine equipment or aircraft

5. Products on vehicles (bicycles, cars, ships, airplanes, traffic signals, etc.)

6. Medical devices contained in relevant European directives

7. Products that only use battery power, or solar products

I. The specific content of the change:

1. Energy efficiency requirements:

A. For lighting products, the new regulations give the concept of maximum allowable power Ponmax.

B. From September 1, 2021, independent controllers need to meet efficiency requirements and no-load and standby power consumption under full load operation.

II. Classification of energy efficiency grades:

From the requirements table, the efficiency requirements for lighting products have been greatly improved! The old standard requires a light effect of 85LM/W and 110LM/W, which can basically enter the A, A+ or A++ level, but now it can only be in the F level! The new version of ERP requires lumens greater than or equal to 210LM/LM/W to be A-level.

III. Label changes:

1. The supplier name and product model position are different

Functional requirements:

Compared with the old regulations, the new regulations have slightly changed in terms of power factor, stroboscopic, and lumen maintenance. Other requirements have not changed much.

1. The aging time required by the old 1194 regulations: 6000 hours (the lighting time is 6000 hours);

2. The aging time required by the new regulations: 3600 hours (tested by the switch method, the actual lighting time is 3000 hours).
