Ethiopians vs Football

Have you ever seen a preschooler attempting to fit blocks into a cut-out shape? The square peg fits the square hole, while the round peg fits the round hole. It's entertaining to watch the drama unfold. Some people will keep trying until they succeed. Some will hurl the blocks in disgust, while others will simply walk away, believing it impossible.

During yesterday's #AFCON football match between Cameroon and Ethiopia, I imagined a similar scenario. Cameroon is renowned as a #footballing nation with an exceptional track record of #success in international games, but Ethiopia is known for its incredible success in #marathon and long-distance races.

Walias of Ethiopia was defeated 4:1 by the indomitable lions of Cameroun, and by the 80th minute, the Ethiopians appeared broken and bruised, like a square peg squeezed into a round hole.

Currently, the Walias are cruising at the bottom of the Group A table with zero points, and advancing to the next round will require a miracle.

However, remember that this is a nation with a striking record in marathons and long-distance races. To put that in perspective, Ethiopians have a fine record in our #AccessBank #LagosCityMarathon, and I am cheering for the country to win the race (Male/Female category) on February 12.

Why? Marathon is a comfortable #terrain, a #passion, and a square hole for them.

A "square" person being a party pooper is a running joke around the world. So, if you or your #business is a square peg, you must STOP attempting to fit into a round hole. It's not going to work. You will just scrape up your edges and still not fit. Rather than forcing the system, why not look within to see what you can change.
