v? [1] Principal Finance, Bank and Management Trainer and Consultant, By Education: BA in Management from AAU, Ethiopia, and MDP in Finance and Macroeconomic Policy from KDIS, South Korea (Republic of Korea).By Experience: Central Banker for about eight years and commercial banker for about seven years, Trainer, and Consultant for about two years as organizer and provider of the service.

[2] By their establishment name and rebranded name is not included for all for the sake of avoiding duplication of abbreviation

[3] NBE Website as accessed on 18/04/2024

[4] Establishment date is more appropriate to classify banks in Ethiopia because the industry is protected for domestic investors and the industry so far showed upward trend in profit, total assets, total loan, total deposit and total capital. Hence, any bank open the door early than the one late open has advantages on aforementioned major performance indicators, especial on deposits, loans and profits.

[5] This classification is relatively among Ethiopian Banks and not compared to any country by any standard.

[6] This Institution converted from microfinance to Bank. They have large in number in terms of customers but low in amount of transactions per transaction case and accumulated saving and loans granted.

This is not reality and data based classification. It is also very different from the classification made by NBE recently.

Guys, i appreciate your thoughts and insightful ideas. Since, the publication of the financial stability report by NBE, i saw a lot of narrations focusing on classification of the banking industry i.e., the base. But, both writers don't articulate "why we need classification". What is the rationality, the burden for the central bank if it uses multiple criteria or baskets. What is more, they didn't support their view by expriance of other countries. Personally, i like brainstorming, but better to be supported by logic and evidence.

Dear Yishak thanks for sharing ,In my opinion you can further clarify the parameters to give us a good understanding and add some figures to support your statement.

Dear Yisehak, With great apology, I fail to get the rational and the importance of using the year of establishment as a benchmark to classify banks. Figures in the banking industry reveal facts against your idea of classifying banks by year of establishment. A performance difference between CBO and NIB can be seen as a good example. Besides, the case of Zemen Bank and Lion can also be a reference. I think the financial variables are more important than year of establishment.
