Ethics and the New Technology
“But Matt!” She cried, thinking she had the right to reprimand an FBI Field Agent, “this place is a mess!”
Looking her eye-to-eye, without a word, he nodded.
“What?” she countered, stunned, “you want me to fix it?!?”
His second nod came rapidly and with more determination.
This can’t be happening, she thought, pushing away conflicting emotions. That didn’t just happen, she groaned inside. But it did, and it had. Her eyes spun as she stepped away,??searching for the first thought to enter her head:
“You know where this started?” She blurted, “it was the day after 9-11. I watched it happen. The country lost touch with its ability to include its neighbors. We were doing fine and making good progress… and then an entire race got locked out of social activities. That’s not the way we do things in America.”
It would be three years before she accepted that segregation is very much the way America does things. It’s more the rule than the exception. Well, she thought, when it’s time to do something big, turn to technology.
With her own personal experience surviving hate crimes, she knew the tech needed to be tempered with the humanities. So she looked into her bag of technology “tricks” and pulled out the next big one on the list: the Metaverse.
“[It] is a vision of what many in the computer industry believe is the next iteration of the internet: a single, shared, immersive, persistent, 3D virtual space where humans experience life in ways they could not in the physical world.” (Needle, n/p, 2022)
Having garnered the attention of the world in LinkedIn, she prayed, “God help me use it.??Make my little squeak big enough to change society enough to calm down things in Arabia...especially in Libya, Syria and Yemen.”
Knowing that people were struggling, starving, and dying made her feel rather pressured for time. She looked over her shoulder at the new B21 bomber (Weisgerber, n/p, 2022); and UNSMIL’s willingness to consider a “digital dialogue” (online conference) to listen to the public (Zaptia, n/p, 2022); and some rapidly developing online laws and mores (Lew, n/p, 2022). “Ethics,” she thought, “it’s time to start discussing ethics,” (Moreno, n/p, n/d).
Another piece of the puzzle slid into place, interrupting her thoughts:?
“Artificial intelligence will change the script and the music. Our awareness, politics, and truth, will determine the outcome,” (Artificial, n/p, n/d).
Yes. It’s definitely time for ethics.
Enter ChatGPT… AI in play. You know Artificial Intelligence?
“The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer followup questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests,” (ChatGPT, n/p, n/d).

It’s a dictation software.?
So who defines the dialog format?
Hello… ETHICS?
“[He] Got really excited and wanted to try #ChatGPT and see how it works, but unfortunately @OpenAI did not make it available for the residents of #Libya?” (Mohammed, n/p, 2022).
ETHICS!!! She cried… HELLO!
That’s what concerned her about all this technology. Much like this paper, the changes are coming very rapidly.??With conscientious deployment, they have the potential to be fabulous. Without careful planning , however, they have the possibility to be anything but.
Did someone mention ethics??
