The Ethics of New Technology
Are we out of ideas? I see a plethora of new devices and applications that make easy things a bit easier. Things that improve something that really didn't need improvement. Gadgets built because they can be built. Shouldn't we be nearing a point where technology drives a higher purpose than just entertainment or profits? How often do we sit back and ask ourselves. does this technology really make a difference that counts? Does it help society as a whole or help other raise themselves to compete by normal societal needs?
Technology is cheap enough to produce, whether it's data or products, that much of it could be accessible or affordable to every society, every county if we really want it to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm a capitalist through and through, but we need to focus on making this world a better place, leveling out the opportunity for every one. Technology, especially the Internet, has been the great leveler, but it's time to leverage AI, IoT, reusable raw materials and crops to drive new inventions. Although technology does not and cannot have ethics, the inventors and distributors, as well as the users, should. There's amazing things that happen when you take a group of people from heterogeneous backgrounds in a room and brainstorm on how to solve world issues. Whether a corporation, housewife or university fulfills that idea is irrelevant if the solution has a powerful and positive impact to society. Technology needs to have a "social code".
I'm going to bring together different types of minds, viewpoints and backgrounds on my new podcast called "The Social Code". From farmers to entrepreneurs to politicians to researchers to philosophers to corporate leaders, I want to find out what direction technology should be and truly is taking in relation to this societal code.
I encourage all readers for suggestions on guests that are making that positive and powerful impact with technology - either by creating, using, or teaching it. I want to hear what you think our social code should be. Let's make a change in the world for the better, one technology at a time.

5 年Great thoughts Joe. I'm looking forward to the podcast! I think the first stop in making technology more positive is to diversify the teams working on it. We need a healthy mix of both men and women, different cultures, even different backgrounds within the same culture etc. They can work as a team to root out bias within the technology.
