Ethics? Check! Pilot, we’re coming ????

We’re going home! We have just had our first ethics application approved by Charité Berlin, Germany’s largest and most prestigious hospital - their first ever for a robotics-in-home trial! In collaboration with the Diakoniezentrum Pirmasens we will be at an elderlies’ home for 3 days later this Spring, and the committee gave us a clear sign that our work is done with the highest level of care and consideration for our patients and ultimately customers. We could not be more proud.

We are also proud to have signed another investor, and it was particularly exciting as I signed the documents via Robody (check our Key Achievements section to see how we did it)! For the legal-minded among you, this begs a fascinating question: Is a signature signed through a tele-operated Robody legally binding? Just to be safe, Alona also signed a copy of course.

In other news, we were excited to add Berk Unal to our team as VR/AR Developer. Berk has a degree in Computer Science from Vilnius Business College as well as about four years of experience in game and VR development. He’s already moved from Vilnius to Munich for us - welcome Berk!

Are you following us on social media? In February we put out a poll asking the world if robotic avatars could help reduce strain on care professionals. The result? 90% of you believed that was the case. Fine, maybe our audience is a tiiiiiiny bit biased, but something has to change in order to solve the care crisis!

Key Achievements

  • We welcomed Berk Unal to our team as VR/AR Developer.

  • We are excited to share that we signed our second investor this month. Sebastian Pammer recently exited a medical 3d printing company he founded, and we are happy to add his expertise and network to our investor group.

We are looking to speak with users

This year we will be iterating rapidly on both the Robody and the Robody Cares as a product. To ensure we build technology and solutions that offer maximum value and support to end users - people in need of care in the home - we would like to interview several end users in 2024. Do you have a friend or a family member receiving ambulant care today? Would they be willing to speak with us about their experience in a 20-minute call? Contact us to refer a friend/family member.

News from Robotics, Health Tech and XR

?? Do you sometimes work from home? Five years ago, most of us would answer ‘no’, but in a post-Covid world, many of us regularly do. If you are highly educated and earning a lot, that is. Recent studies presented in Harvard Business Review suggest mainly white-collar, well-paid jobs are remote, and it is causing a growing divide in society. If only there was a solution that allowed nurses and caregivers to work remotely… ;)

?? When Bill Gates supports a cause, the world listens. Thus we were thrilled to read about Mr Gates’ enthusiasm for the future of robotics in solving big, societal problems. He also makes an interesting comment on how a decade ago he thought motor skills for robots would be solved long before “thinking skills”, and how the progress of LLM’s compared to robot motor functions has flipped that assumption on its head.

?? A hard truth for an ageing society. I think many of us have heard of how the Japanese often break records of longevity, and how family values are very strong in Japan? What fewer may know is that they rely on a system of unpaid “welfare volunteers” to look after the elderly. The system has worked for more than a century, but is now breaking down due to societal trends.

?? Valentine’s Day was last month, I know, but it is never too late for a little romance? Can the physical distance between humans be bridged with technology? Yes, it can. Meet Jon and Lucy, enjoying a romantic date over 8000 km apart. Breadstick, anyone?
