Ethical Hacking: Imagine a bunch of computer science students in the role of good guys pretending to be bad hackers, under the clear premise of an ethical and legally sound framework.?
They collect ideas to fool one another, program their own codes peppered with malware, and exploit open-source hacking tools freely available on the market.?
This is exactly the scenario of my Ethical Hacking Seminar at the University of Tübingen. The presentations including live demos took place this weekend.?
How easy is it to get hacked on a scale of 0-100%? The students’ own perception is rated at 40% before the hands-on hacking seminar, but at 80% afterward. So striking, how easy it is to launch a successful cyber attack.
Three learnings (at least) that could help to protect against cyber attacks:
? keeping technical environment up-to-date?
? security aware and reflective mindset
? basic understanding of how the bad guys work.
