In my childhood , I was introduced to meditation. This was all thanks to my grandparents who were followers of 'Gurumayi' & 'Swami Muktananda'. At that time, I was ignorant of this wonderful tool. I remember being unable to understand anything as I sat amongst the meditating group in the big room. Nothing came of for me during this exercise however it did make me earn the label of being 'Restless' from my parents. This tag was given as I would not stay at one place or focus on one activity. I could be seen shifting from one thing to the other. My choices were also not fixed which meant that at one point of time, I would love one thing and select another option at a different time.
I started identifying myself with the tag of being 'Restless'. Looking back on all these events have given me a clarity that every child behaves in this manner and there was nothing special about my childhood either. This realisation is profound and accurate as I experienced it first hand while watching my daughter grow up. Thus now I knew that it is wrong on my part to label my child as 'restless'. We as parents must be very careful as all these labels confuse the kids and they assume that this is their personality. They started living accordingly and that can be detrimental.
1. You Got To Be Ready
The label of being 'Restless' was shunned by me as I grew up because I knew that it is not me. I also realised that when you are ready in life then only the things automatically occur like they were always meant to be.
“When the student is ready the teacher will appear. When the student is truly ready... The teacher will Disappear”........― Tao Te Ching
The above is a beautiful thought and applies to everyone. When I was ready as an adult, I was re-introduced to meditation. This is all thanks to the books that came my way. The following are the books which opened doors to me in my inward journey:-
Swami Yogananda Ji's work was a revelation to me that made me start my meditation practice. Currently it is at very initial stage but friends! I can happily share that doing 20-30 mins of mediation in morning & evening gives a lot of bliss. I was happy exploring the lessons that Swami Yogananda Ji had shared but as he himself says that the moment you undertake a journey of life(including spiritual), you would find messages from God that support you on your path to enlightenment. The messages can be in form of conversation with someone, book or appearance of guru etc. I feel one of this message fell in my lap through the 'Shiv Sutra' book. This book was part of my impulsive purchase from Amazon. I remember finishing 'Autobiography Of A Yogi' and wanting to pick another book. I wanted this time I pick up a book that was light. This was because I felt that I had read too much of high level teachings of Swami Ji & thus I must indulge myself in some 'masala content that will be more easy on my mind'.
It seems that God had other plans. The moment I moved to my bookshelf, I instinctively picked up the book 'The Shiv Sutras' by Ranjit Chaudhary. My body acted automatically & my mind said-"it looks like a small book". The book did look small but possessed deep , satiating knowledge which I hope many others also explore. I was so engrossed in this work that I finished it in 2-3 days absorbing the beautiful ecstasy provided by the sutras.
It is believed that Lord Shiva himself revealed these sutras to Sage Vasugupta in 8 Century A.D. The book is divided into three chapters namely Remove The Veil, Detach From The Body & Awakening. There are multiple messages that the readers will get out from this book however I would want the core message to stick with all as it is transformative for the mankind. The message is mentioned below :-
We all need to stop looking outwards for solutions because eternal wisdom is all within us. This needs to be explored.

2. ???????????? (The Self Is Consciousness)
This sutra is a revelation to mankind that we all are created consciousness that is the Soul. We have been created by creator who is the GOD. Thus we need to be aware that we are not the body which is the popular belief and moreover that everyone is one. This means that we belong to God and are not separate from it. There is a veil of Maya that keeps us unaware on this aspect. However the moment we get aware of we being the Soul that is the actual life force .This consciousness is what is driving the body.
2. ????? ????? (The Self Is An Actor)
I was surprised to read this sutra because what Sage Vasugupta mentioned in 8 Century A.D is what exactly was spoken by William Shakespeare in 17th Century i.e "Life is a stage & we all are actors". Is it a coincidence of God's design, I will leave it to the inference of readers. The Shiv Sutra forces us to ponder that this life is a stage where we all have our roles assigned. We just need to perform to our best abilities. In order to have tranquility in our lives, we must know that we are not the doer and just a witness to this maya called life. This will bring a lot of peace in our lives and as said earlier "Look Within & Not Outside".
I would urge all to explore this book and after gaining knowledge, you will stumble across another gem as the Sutra will tell you that
Knowing is Not Enough But Experiencing Is
Thus if you need to know more than read other works from Ranjit Chaudhary (Spanda Karika & 112 Meditations). In case you want to experience then meditate.
Hope you all find joy & bliss accorded by Lord Shiva.
Enjoy Your Weekend.
